Good call. The Jets can't do anything about what Bill Rhoden writes, but why on earth would Brian Urlacher call the Bears "the best team in the NFL" three days before the Patriots come to Chicago? Nobody takes more offense at being disrespected - whether it's perceived or real - the best instance of which was Rodney Harrison's bleating about nobody expecting the Pats to win the Super Bowl when they were 14-point favorites over the Panthers.
I think Belichick's first task every morning when he comes to work is to Google the words "Patriots stink" so he can cull derogatory quotes and paste them on the bulletin board in New England's locker room.

Pierce and Bob Ryan have apparently become BFFs. I have no idea how that happened, because you'd figure neither one of them would shut up long enough to be able to listen to what the other one is saying.
Instead of water-boarding the prisoners at Gitmo, we ought to be making them watch a panel show with the panel consisting of Pierce, Ryan, Mike Lupica and Bill Conlin.
He's a real fun guy.
"First, Bill Simmons took Charles P. Pierce out of his book because he said he came off like a spurned lover."
Two people who deserve each other. If my mother-in-law had a beard and testicles, she'd be Charlie Pierce.
ETA: Social media has made sportswriters like Heyman unbearable. Heyman is a part of the "old school crowd" -- the one Mitch Albom, Buzz Bissinger and Charles P. Pierce wax poetic about. It is funny when these guys rip bloggers for not being one of the thousands of lucky journalists who get to cover a major sports team and make snide comments from a safe distance, but then do it anyway.
I'm looking at you, too, Bissinger. I bet that a-hole would crap his pants if he had to face Scott Rolen in the dugout.
A couple of interesting things in the past day.
First, Bill Simmons took Charles P. Pierce out of his book because he said he came off like a spurned lover. Naturally, this got Deadspin talking and they re-posted Pierce's review of Simmons' book last year. The whole review did come off as petty and just rehashed all the other criticisms made of Simmons while being more eloquent.
I'm sure Pierce will have something to say.
Second, Jon Heyman made sure to put himself in the spotlight by ripping Jose Canseco on Twitter. Yesterday, Canseco begged for a team to give him a chance (LOL) then talked about how his tombstone will say baseball.
What does Heyman do? Calls him a cheater and a ratfink. Well done, Jon. You are ripping a guy (on Twitter) who is so broke and lonely he gave out his phone number and encouraged people to call him. Deadspin put it best:
Canseco's a sad shell of a man now, we get it. But Heyman felt the need to pile on, calling him a "cheater" and a "ratfink." So Jose was bad because he took steroids, but also because he was honest about taking steroids? One or the other, Jon. If you're going to get so sanctimonious over the initial transgression, you can't be in the Stop Snitchin' crowd too.
To recap, Jon Heyman's hierarchy of needs:
1. That players never took steroids.
1a. If they did, that no one ever told him about it.
