That's pretty great. And she does it on talent rather than charisma or controversy, because she's damn boring.

When you become that successful, it's kind of hard to connect with fans when you're writing songs about the lousy room service at the Ritz.
The alternative is becoming Rod Stewart - eschewing any thoughts of originality and just releasing your version of what was popular six months ago. I'm eagerly waiting for Rod's next CD, which will probably be rap versions of country songs.

It's pretty amazing that Taylor Swift sold four million albums because no one goes platinum anymore. Let this soak in: 11 years ago, Garth Brooks sold two million copies of that album he did as Chris Gaines. Two million! That's probably about 300,000 by today's standards.

I respectfully disagree, AP. Def Leppard's first two albums were phenomenal, and then they decided to write songs for heartsick teenage girls. I wouldn't have liked them if their first album was Pyromania, and I would have hated them if their first album was Hysteria. But the time they got around to doing a bad Nine Inch Nails imitation, I was done with them.

I like them and dont understand when people say a band has sold out to become more popular. It is retarded. After all the reason people play is to heard. Playing stuff that more people like is logical. Just because somebody likes their music before other people did doesnt make that person cooler no matter how they try and word it.

I'm fairly flexible about what they can listen to, but I figure it's a pretty good idea to at least keep the lines of communication open on the topic.
I'm so technologically-ignorant I originally ceded control of the ITunes store to my wife. Then I came home one day and the 10-year-old was listening to the Rage Against The Machine song that has the chorus "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" about 157 times in a row.
This is another one for which you almost want to make an exception:

I thought it was kind of funny when the interviewer asked Joe Elliott and Phil Collen what they thought about Swift selling four million albums last year. The Def Leppard guys took it in stride, but they sort of had that look like Spinal Tap when they're gathered around the radio and the disc jockey says they're in the "'Where are they now?' file."
Def Leppard must be willing to do anyhting for money if they will get on stage and let Swift sing their songs.

Me: "It's an awesome song. But there's a censored version that Mom should have down-loaded for you."
Wife: "What's 'Rage Against The Machine?'"

Glad you're paying attention Fors. I have a niece that posted something on facebook - she was lip-singing to a song I can't imagine any 15 year old should ever hear - & my sister & I worried ourselves sick trying to figure out how to get our half-brother to see her page! I eventually had my oldest son speak to him personally, since they were in the same town at the time. I don't know if anyone ever saw her video but someone sure should be paying attention to what she listens to! They're in STL & I'm in Colorado so I don't have much input unfortunately (shocked)
It's not that difficult. I'm the only one with the I-tunes password. If they want a song on their I-pod, they have to come to dad first.
