Pete's one of my heroes. Another of his quotes on communism was to the effect that he was as much of a communist as a traditional native American living here at the time of Colombus was.
Seeger certainly was, and still may be, but with reservations:
"I still call myself a communist, because communism is no more what Russia made of it than Christianity is what the churches make of it. But if by some freak of history communism had caught up with this country, I would have been one of the first people thrown in jail."
In looking for a facile reply I found Pete more complex and thoughtful than I'd assumed him to be. Nice when that happens.
