"I would rather see Zambrono on the mound"
I wonder who's going to end up with that putz. You know there's one manager out there who thinks "I can get through to him ..."
I hope it's the Reds.
I heard the Cubs were thinking baout trying to work it out being they are on the hook fo alot of money.

At some point, I think that you could sue a guy like Zambrano to try to reduce your financial commitment, since his loss of value is almost all self-inflicted and has very little to do with on field ability.
Supposing Z intentionally sawed off his forearm in order to end his career, would the Cubs have to pay his whole contract? Where is the line between the obvious and subtle?

A lot of interesting stuff in this story.

Strauss.
What he says is not surprising, though I think some of it is best case scenario posturing, notably his comfort with Greene as the starting shortstop and a middle infield of Greene and Descalso, if need be. Prior to all that he correctly identifies the team's two most pressing areas: LHP and shortstop. The business of no need to trade any of the RHP is also posturing I think. Sure he doesn't need to, but why wouldn't he want to if the opportunity presented itself? You don't leave a surplus of ice cream in your freezer simply to spoil.
But overall, his stance of 'stand pat' with or without Pujols, is a defendable call, even if it doesn't make us happy.

Lohse and Westbrook will make awesome 4 and 5 pitchers.
Woah, almost got clipped by the hyperbole there. Lohse I have no problem with down-rotation, but the words "Westbrook" and "awesome" are not compatible. "Acceptable" perhaps, though Edwin Jackson at 5 is a bit more acceptable IMHO.
The other possibility down there is Rzepcynski... have been hearing a lot about him becoming a starter, and #5 guy in a very good rotation wouldnt be a bad place to start.
Yeah, I hear ya, but let's be aware that "awesome #5" is a bit like complimenting the brussel sprouts as "the most delicious I've ever had." In 2005, when the starters won 80 games, Jason Marquis was an "awesome #5".
I don't think we can afford considering Zep for SP yet, as we still need to ADD one LHP. But I agree that he looks so good that he could almost be a candidate for closer, as well SP.

"Mozeliak projects Daniel Descalso as next season's starting second baseman"
Wow! Really?!? That's a bit of a leap of faith.

"the Cardinals habitually have found their back-up catchers on the free-agent market, including Mike DiFelice, Einar Diaz, Gary Bennett, Jason LaRue or Gerald Laird."
Umm ... Joe? I believe the proper terminology is "Einar Freakin' Diaz."

This creates roster opportunities for Cruz and Anderson, and culinary opportunities for everyone in the post-game spread.
I suppose the best thing you can say about Laird is he did what the Cardinals asked of him and didn't completely suck doing it.

I will best remember Laird for his celebration after Freese's game 6 home run.

Laird was a good guy. I wish him well.
Moz already made clear that Matheny wants to give Anderson a shot, and many people thought Cruz earned a shot as well.

I remember reading last season that Matheny was Anderson's biggest advocate in the organization.

Maybe Matheny can get Anderson in the Hall of Fame afterall. I think he has to prove something more before getting a roster spot. Fors was right about Anderson but I think Liard proved my point that a team should have to depend on the free agent market to find a backup catcher.
