I assume the reason is to shorten the travel time. So they want to punish the wild card by making them play a one game playoff and then reward them by giving them home field advantage more or less.
What happens if a one game playoff is need to determine the wild card? Do they have a one game playoff for the one game playoff?
I suspect you'd have to.

McCellan made 2.3 last year and will make more then that this year. Payroll will have to be around 110mill.
Which just goes to verify something we have been arguing about for the past several years: that, assuming revenue has been relatively steady, the Cardinals had great payroll flexibility over the past several years, during a period when DeWitt emphasized it was important for the Cardinals to hold the line, and even contract the payroll at times.
2011: 105,433,572
2010: 93,540,753
2009: 88,528,411

I believe TK even ridiculed my notion from about two years back that payroll could glide up toward $110 in the "next few years", and continue marching up toward $120.
For the sake of reference, this exact discussion came up just under 12 months ago, but people seem to remember less and less, or worse, imagine the discussion was about something other than whether the money was there or not.
And btw, AP, good prediction on the size of opening day payroll 2012.
(oh shoot. the quote feature didn't reveal the dates. the conversation came from last December, in case that wasn't clear).
