"MLB Network recently aired a program that identified the top 40 or 50 most controvesial calls in baseball history (more appropriately, "recorded" baseball history)"
I saw it. And I correctly guessed what was #1.
Interesting that Tim McClellan was involved in so many of them.

"Mozeliak characterized Molina's decision as being ill at ease at a team function that requires him to sign hundreds of autographs. Molina made a donation to Cardinals Care to offset the money lost due to his unavailability. Manager Mike Matheny was concerned enough about the catcher's state of mind that he phoned him while docked in San Juan on a team-sponsored Caribbean cruise.
"I'm sorry I didn't make it the last two years, but I had something I had to do back home," Molina said. "It doesn't mean I won't come next year or hopefully the next five or six years.""

Interesting how many of them came from that Angels/Yankees series just a couple of years back--all of which seemed to go against the Angels. Mike Scioscia's liver probably cried "Uncle" after that series.

It's a fun show. I don't know nearly as much about baseball as I thought I did.

If Yadi comes to the next 5-6 Winter Warmups, it will have to span two separate contracts.

I cant get some of the easy most recent questions and most of what I do get involves the Cardinals in so way shape or form. Even when I do know more then what they got I know I couldnt come up with it if I were on the game. The last one I watch asked to name brother pitching combos that had won X amount of games. They named the Weavers. I couldnt think of any at the time. Then they show the list, the Forsch's, the Dean's, Pedro and his brother and the Maddux's. Those should have all been easy.

I hope that is just him talking and not his contract goals. If he expects to get a 5 year deal Id show him the door for sure.

Molina is taking the honest route. Maybe Pujols advised him that it would be best. Molina states that he is going to the highest bidder.
"Asked if he would give a hometown discount, Molina said, "I don't know about that. Like I say — I always say this — I like the town. I like the city. At the same time, I have to think about my family ... like they worry about their team. This is business. If I get good money, I'll take it. If not, I go away.""

"I have to think about my family"
You're right, it's better than the way Pujols handled his negotiations, but the "family" rationale is still a little disingenuous.
Offline
If he means "taking care of my family for the next two generations" I would concur. However, I'm pretty sure he means buying his wife her own Polynesian island.

I dont know how disingenuous it is. More along the line of something we cant relate to. Molina seems rich to you and me. I am sure he has millions or he should have. However if he wants to keep living a high class lifestyle he has to make as much as he can now. If he blows out his knee today in spring training his career earnings could take a huge downturn. We just see him as rich but he might not see himself as such.

I know the reports were that Molina had lost weight, but isn't that a picture of Jaime Garcia in the Molina story?

What I'm saying I'd just once like to hear or read a baseball player say on the cusp of free agency: "This is going to be my last big money contract. The clock is ticking, so I want to be paid enough so I don't have to work in a car wash once I retire from baseball." It's a mentality that's greedy and selfish as hell, but it's honest.
And I also realize this has as much chance of happening as Mitt Romney having a bad hair day.

I think Mo has become alittle cocky since the non-Pujols signing. Seeing fans side with him might have made him to big for his britches. 2011 was a TLR hand picked team and 2012 is a Mo hand picked team. If it doesnt work wil Mo have the balls to admitt his mistakes?

"If it doesnt work wil Mo have the balls to admitt his mistakes?"
It's a good question. I don't know how much support there is for Moz as there is animosity toward Pujols for saying one thing and doing the exact opposite.
Offline
I dont blame Mo for having a big head. It could just be that he has a tiny neck. Still the Cardinals had pretty strong overall teams from 2000-2005. Since then it has been rocky. Last year was just unbelievable and 2006 can be cretited to the exibition match held against the Padres before the NLCS to get the Cardinals back on track.

Those questions are hard, and they don't give you nearly enough time to think about them.
"In 12 seconds, name the 72 different pitchers who hit Ron Hunt with a pitch"

Wonder if Jake Peavy is still annoyed at Mike Piazza for dropping that foul popup?

Molina first said he would not impose a deadline. Now he has changed his tune. Looks like he is going to test the free agent market just like Pujols. I would assume the results will be the same as well.

Did Molina's positioning put pressure on the FO?

Probably didn't hurt.
It probably also didn't hurt that public opinion seems to be on Molina's side. He's not asking for a record setting deal and the Cardinals have a lot of money coming off the books after this season. Even Gordon, who is as big a front office shill as the P-D employs wrote an article supporting re-signing Molina. I think the F-O is worried about public backlash.
Thinking more sinisterly, re-signing Molina makes the F-O look even better in the Pujols situation. The comparisons between the two situations are inevitable. If they get the Molina deal done, it makes Pujols look worse. The F-O can float the notion that if Pujols would have negotiated thru spring training maybe something would have been worked out.

I thought maybe Molina threatening to stop negotiations at the start of the regular season made the FO change their stance. Basicly if that happend they would have been limited to the time inbetween the end of the season and start of the open market. My opinion is there is little reason for a player to sign during that period of time. There are cases like Loshe but in most cases the player is going to test the waters. During spring training the FO still have some leverage because the player could have a down year and lose some barganing power in the upcoming year. So IMO the front office is worried the same will happen with Molina that happend with Pujols. He hits the open market and the Cardinals have no chance.
