Edmonds and Franklin Return

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/cardinal-beat/edmonds-franklin-back-in-cardinals-fold/article_107bf258-57f8-11e1-a11e-001a4bcf6878.html

Edmonds as a GM consultant and Franklin as a special assistant.  Mo described the moves as ""It's really about extending the olive branch to some people who have played a big part in Cardinal history," said Mozeliak, well aware of longstanding differences shared between Smith and La Russa. "We wanted them to feel welcome if they wanted to re-engage."

So it is like a retirement plan?

Did either of them sign a personal services contract?

Franklin has to do all of Moz's laundry and shine his shoes, along with some "light housekeeping." But he has to wear a French maid's outfit and answer to "Yvette."

Re: Edmonds and Franklin Return

The deal made with Franklin was said to be spoke about during the WS.  That was just a few months after Franklin made poor comments after he was cut.  I dont care who scouts in OK.  I just hope the Cardinals are trying to find the best people for these jobs and not doing former players a favor.

My understanding is that Franklin served in a somewhat similar role during his playing days.  From what I've been told, Franklin was Moz's mole in the clubhouse.  All the time we thought Larussa and Duncan were saving Franklin's job, it was actually Moz.

Funny part of the story is that I was told after they finally released Franklin, Moz approached Carpenter about keeping him "informed" about what was happening in the clubhouse.  I guess he thought that Carpenter's poor start to the season and contract status would make him more willing.  Carpenter reportedly threatened to kick Moz's ass.

Hmm.  That would make you think Franklin ratted out Marty mason on something.  Mo needs to let the manager do his job.  Maybe that is why they want a veteran reliever...aka a snitch.

"Franklin was Moz's mole in the clubhouse."

Geez, I haven't been prompted to think of the word "tattle" since that episode of the Brady Bunch when Bobby wanted to kick Cindy's ass.

Christ if that's true.... Goddamn no wonder LaRussa retired..... Who the hell wants to deal with that kind of shit as a Manager who's coached teams into 6 World Series and won 3 of them...

Re: Edmonds and Franklin Return

Wait, Mozeliak had a mole in the clubhouse? I didn't realize we had Nixon as a GM.

Re: Edmonds and Franklin Return

First it's squirrels on the basepaths; now moles in the clubhouse? They need to hire Dave Winfield, or maybe Morris Buttermaker.

It's true. He once summoned Jason Marquis into his office and told him to get down on his knees and pray with him.

Wow. The '70s references are as common as pet rocks today.
