I've been pretty unimpressed with the front-office savvy to this point.

- Pujols could have been signed for far less if St. Louis ponied up earlier. It didn't happen, pissed him off, and he walked for a quarter-billion.
- Molina (though not grossly) was probably overpaid.
- 13 milion a season for Beltran, 6.5 Million a season for Furcal. No bite on Madson who went at 1/yr 6 million (2nd year 11 million, with a 2.5M buyout, so 2/17), to the Reds...
- No bite on Oswalt
- Still stuck with Westbrook
- Still stuck with Lohse
- Hired Matheny instead of a proven Francona

I'm not saying that all of these moves are disasterous, but when you add them up, they leave you with a really nasty taste in your mouth. If all of these moves prove wrong, we could be competing for 4th place in the Central, and nowhere near playoff anything...

Not a fan of switching Lynn to starting.  He isnt proven but was impressive as a starter.  The PD had an interview with him in which he stated that he just let it go when pitching out of a bullpen.  He said he wouldnt worry about saving himself of stretching himself out.  That is why he was effective.  To make him a starter seems to go against what made him good.


And why isnt McCellan thier 6th starter?  He didnt do that bad last year.  I would expect Lynn to be about the same as McCellan was.

I would think some benifit to starting McCellan would be trade value.  If they can convice another team that he is a MLB starter maybe someone will bit.  Either the Cardinals are asking to much or other teams are not impressed with his career numbers.

Key-rist, they saved ~$20 million by letting Pujols walk. You'd think they wouldn't have to base a decision about a potential replacement for Carpenter on the nickels and dimes they might owe McClellan if he's the fifth starter.

That's actually a pretty fair point. It might have something to do with front office irritation lingering from last year and the discussion about him wanting to shut it down so he didn't screw up really good numbers for arbitration. I have no idea if that's true or not, just the discussion in here for why he was in the shit-house. If that was true however, I would probably carry a grudge.

I think it shows that they are really sick of McCellan.  With Duncan gone he has no backers.  Maybe they didnt like the offers they were getting at the end of the offseason and decided to hold on to him and see if his value increased over ST.
