Oh yeah, I have a feeling Matheny is going to be really twitchy and making dumb substitutions late in the game just because he'll think he's not doing enough.
GARCIA! GET IN THERE FOR DENORFIA!
WAINO! YOU'RE MY RIGHT FIELDER IN THE NINTH!
TONY CRUZ! START WARMING UP YOU'RE CLOSING!

"I have a feeling Matheny is going to be really twitchy and making dumb substitutions"
The following quote, referring to Scal and Greene, bolstering your assertion:
"I really went into this wide-eyed. . . and how it played out is that I see huge positives for both guys. So, in order to maximize them, you've got to use them."
Could be an interesting season ...

Im not to worried about Matheny. I think it is a good sign he has Delscaso starting tonight.

I agree because I think DeShields is a better fielder.

The pitcher is batting 9th

He'll be fine. As much as George Will would have you believe otherwise, managing a baseball game doesn't require Genius-level intelligence.

Speaking of whom, I heard on the XM yesterday Delino Jr. (.220 BA with 118 Ks in 469 ABs last year) is going to repeat Low A this season. Guessing the Astros were expecting quicker advancement from the 8th overall pick in the 2010 draft.
Good grief. Luhnow's got a mess on his hands, don't he?

Baseball Tonight is on. The first six topics are going to be Marlins-related.
Does ESPN know the Cardinals are champs?

Serves you right for watching ESPN panel shows.

I don't know why I expect anything different.
Miami has such a rich baseball tradition that they're bringing out Muhammad Ali.

And Beltran gets the first hit at this monstrosity.

Freese just seems automatic with runners on.

Start printing them playoff tickets!!

You were expecting Craig Counsell?

WTG Big Chill! And if that were Tuffy Rhodes, isnt this where Cub would point out to us that he's on pace for a 324 RBI season?
And two ribbies for my newly-named fantasy team: "I hate Johnny Cueto."

"I'm assuming he isnt doing well?"
His Parkinson's was so bad he nearly lit himself on fire with the Olympic torch in Atlanta, and that was in 1996. I can't imagine that situation has improved.

I was about to post that no pitcher has ever thrown a perfect game on opening day, but that would have been inopportune.

Livan Hernandez must've been too fat for the golf cart.

must not jinx it.... must not ......

La Russa definitely would pull Jay or Denada here. Smart move by Matheny to resist the urge.
Offline
La Russa probably would've yanked Lohse.

Probably?

That's a fucking terrible call at first base, and now it's cost the Cardinals a run.

Angel H. screws us for a run.......
