If Freese stays healthy he might drive in 200 runs, though I predict an injury coming in the next two weeks.
At some point, Freese will earn enough respect around the league that teams will start pitching to Berkman. When that happens, and assuming the lineup's health, this team will be really tough to face.

Back to the game--
I realize we're only a game and a half into the season, and Furcal is another significant injury-risk, but does anyone else not miss Ryan Theriot?
They were in first place with him, so yes. Absolutely.

The shadows have taken over home plate.

Nice play, D-Squared!

Furcal got busted but I like the idea that the Cards are going to start pushing things on the basepads.

Ok, Jaime, don't poop the bed here.

OK, this story has nothing to do with the game, but since you guys raised the topics of poop and farts, I have to share.
I was in court this morning waiting to argue a very simple motion that would have taken, at most, 5-10 minutes. The case before us was a sexual harassment case that was about to go to trial and the parties had 19 separate motions regarding evidence that would/wouldn't be admitted during the trial. For some reason, the judge wouldn't push that case to the back of the docket, so I spent my morning listening to attorneys argue over the following:
- whether or not the supervisor's alleged habit of farting in the plaintiff's presence could be considered evidence of sexual harassment.
- whether or not the supervisor's alleged habit of going into the bathroom, dropping a duece, emerging from the bathroom and triumphantly announcing the approximate length and weight of his shit to the office could be considered evidence of sexual harassment.
- whether or not the plaintiff should be allowed to present to the jury a picture found on her cell phone, which the plaintiff believed, but could not prove, had been taken by the supervisor. The picture was a giant turd in a toilet bowl.
- whether or not the plaintiff could testify, without supporting testimony from a psychiatrist or psychologist, that she believed her supervisor had a "poop fetish."
There were a variety of other topics covered. I have never before watched a group of attorneys have to work so hard to keep from breaking out into laughter in a courtroom. I nearly pulled a rib cage muscle. And the judge's face throughout was priceless.
Holy shit!

Headed to the bottom of the 6th with a 5 run lead. Garcia has thrown 71 pitches. 4 straight RH hitters to start the inning. Larussa would have two guys throwing and another stretching in the bullpen. Anyone watching who can confirm or deny bullpen activity?

He's gone now, but this is a situation for Boggs.

Or Romero.

Time to give Arthur Rhodes a call.

Romero will be this year's Batista. My god is he terrible.

Yeah they need to have a short leash with him or cut him. Having two lefties isnt important if one sucks. Everything he threw was hittable.

We're turning DP's instead of hittin' into 'em ....

Nice job by Boggs

Look at the Other Carpenter!

Oh, well this is fun.

Wow, great job, K-Mac!

I have a feeling McClellan isn't with this team come September, not because he gets traded, but because he gets released. They are going to regret tendering him a contract.

Can you imagine Mags trying to address this type of case in a Civ Pro class?

He looks terrible. No bite on his stuff and seriously, a 500-foot homer to George Kottaras?
Get rid of McClellan and Romero, keep Matt Carpenter, and this is a team.

"does anyone else not miss Ryan Theriot?"
Not really, but you have to admit the scrappiosity quotient of this year's team is much lower.

They showed Motte picking his nose. Does that qualify as "bullpen activity?"

Yeah he looked bad. I dont see how having him in the pen is better then Sanchez. I wonder if another team would put a waiver claim on him. It also would be nice to know what was offered this offseason for him. Right now anything looks good.

I think the running game has already had pitchers on edge. I guess that isnt covered in the term "scrappiosity" because it is an actuall skill.

Scrappiosity and skill have nothing to do with each other.
