After Westbrook walked 4 in the first two innings, we all had him pitching 7 innings, right?
I wasn't sure he'd get seven outs.

The Cardinals are lucky. According to Danny, if Madsen hadn't gotten hurt, the Reds would have clinched the division during this series.

The other thing that drives me crazy is the soliloquies, delivered in equally urgent fashion. Earlier in the game, he went on for almost an entire half-inning about the Cardinals' bullpen, correctly pointing out it stunk in the first half of the season but then "finally got it together." But he didn't mention the Rasmus trade. It's sort of like saying Gerald Ford was an anonymous representative from Michigan, and then a few months later he became President. Yeah, but there was some stuff in between that was pretty important.

They haven't already?

Not yet, but I think Danny is working on a magic number thread.

The Cardinals' magic number is 157, if the Astros hold on to their 3-run lead in the ninth.

Make that a 5-run lead. Someone named Justin Maxwell just hit a 2-run bomb. I don't know who half these friggin' guys are, but they're about to go 3-1.

BTW, every time I've turned on a Braves' game this season, Livan Hernadez has been pitching for them. Not a good sign anyway, but have you seen this guy's gut? He ought to change his name to Livan' Above A Burger King.

This made me LOL. Seriously why is everyone booing Molina. Brewers fans did it to.

Was the strike zone as tight as Shannon made it out to be? I was in and out of the game on the radio but it seems several times Shannon would calling the pitch a strike and then say it was called a ball.

Shannon must've been drunk because it was a pretty consistent zone.

They've been on him since he had that meltdown in Milwaukee last year. No idea why that's lingered in BrewerFan's consciousness. It had nothing to do with the Brewers. All his ire was directed at an umpire.

There were some irregularities, but it was a pretty consistent zone by C.B. Bucknor's standards. Westbrook looked in a couple of times early in the game. It was almost like Bucknor wasn't giving the pitch at the knees in the middle of the zone, but a pitch at the knees on one of the corners was a strike. But Westbrook was all over the place in the first two innings. It wasn't like he was throwing the same pitch to the same spot and wasn't getting the call.
Later in the game, Holliday got a little testy when Bailey was given a strike on a pitch that looked a couple of inches inside, but it's hard to tell with Holliday because when he thinks a pitch is in, he does that thing where he gives up on the pitch and sort of shifts his momentum a bit toward the plate. There was one really bad call late in the game - a high strike on Descalso that came out of nowhere. Bucknor hadn't given anything above the belt all night long and then he called a strike on a pitch that was at the letters. But that was really the only truly bad call, and it had no impact on the game.

This is the ugliest damn ballpark.
Good seats still available.
Attendance was 16,909. I know night games in April aren't all that attractive, but the weather in Cincinnati last night was decent. If the Reds are going to tout themselves as the Cardinals' big rival, they've got to get more than 17 thousand asses in the seats.

This wasn't just a game in April, it was the first game of the season against their bitter rival who happens to be the defending World Series Champion. Good luck affording that Votto deal with that apathetic fan base.
I couldn't watch the game because AT&T still has its dispute with the Cardinals or Fox Sports or whoever and there are still 20 games blacked out for U-verse customers. Somehow I managed to keep track of what was going on via the radio and computer.
Reds fans are a joke.

Speaking of dumb fans, Marty Brennaman was on the radio in STL just now and said he defends what he said about Dave Duncan and that the Cardinals were out of line over the Jonny Cueto stuff.

Here's a more accurate recollection of the events:
- Dat Dude seeks out a reporter from a Cincinnati paper so he can be quoted saying he "hates" the Cardinals because they're "whiners."
- Dat Dude provokes a brawl by tapping Molina's shin guards with his bat.
- During the course of said brawl, Cueto - WEARING METAL BASEBALL SPIKES - bicycle kicks Carpenter in the back and LaRue in the head so many times LaRue sustains a concussion, is forced to the disabled list, and then into retirement.
- The Reds and their idiotic fans blame the Cardinals.
Offline
How Cincinnati fans saw it:
-Dat Dude is just being Dat Dude, but really, the Cardinals are little bitches.
-Dat Dude is just trying to be friendly and Molina loses his mind because he's a fiery Latino.
-Jonny Cueto feels defenseless and starts kicking everyone around him. He was just scared!
-The Cardinals proceed to crush the Reds, but only because they took them out of their element. Total bush league.
-Marty Brennaman won't shut the hell up about it 18 months later.

I guess I let that slip my mind. Yadi isnt the crazy type but when he gets in the middle of something he makes up for it. I like to see that from him once in awhile. Sometimes he is to collected. Then he misses a block and you start to think he doesnt care. Him and the rest of the team are hitting the crap out of the ball right now.

The juxtaposition of these two observations by RedFan being no doubt hilariously unintentional ...

He really lost it in a way I've never seen before or since. The level of response was way, way over the top and inexcusable, but I'm guessing there had to be something else that went on prior. I don't remember who the plate umpire was, but it couldn't have been that Molina got that pissed off over a called strike that was about two inches inside.

Am I remebering wrong or was there prior games or even a prior series that the umps blew some calls that cost the team a game or two. I thought Skip was involved somehow.
