I assume this was game 2 of the AT&T blackout games because when I got home tonight my version of Fox Sports was showing an exhibition basketball game.
I assume Lohse looked good?

He said in the postgame that he didn't have a feel for his slider.

It might be time to start working these FSMW people with your innate charm.
Not that this is going to help your mood, but Dan did a spot touting U-Verse in between innings tonight. Not that any of the actual subscribers saw it ...

It didn't seem like he threw it much. His control with the fastball was very good, and he was almost always working ahead in the count in the first five innings. He struggled a bit in the sixth. Beltran took a bad route on a liner by Cozart in the gap and Cozart ended up on third. Votto missed a cookie and flew out to center to score the run. Then he got Rolen and Heisey around a single by Bruce, but it was a struggle. There was no doubt he was coming out of the game because his spot was due up in the top of the seventh.
Lohse's night at the plate was a different story. I missed the top of the second inning because I was helping Zach with homework, but I guess he bunted into a double play, and then in the fifth he couldn't get a bunt down after Greene led off with a double. Jay followed with a fly ball to left that would have easily been deep enough to score Greene if Lohse had advanced him to third. The score was 1-0 at the time.

Tonight wasn't as big a deal as last night because Bob had a game tonight, so I wasn't home for most of the Cards game. It was Bob's first night of unrestricted activity since he fractured his wrist. To say he had an interesting night on the bases would be an understatement, but he was so happy to finally get to do something, he was all smiles by the end of the night.

What kind of ovation is David Freese going to get on Friday?
Why is he so awesome?

Does anyone remember Boggs retiring six guys in a row since he went to the bullpen?
I saw that in the box scores. Might be a good sign.

What is up MLB's ridiculous scheduling? Why are there idle teams on a Tuesday? Why are the defending champs playing 13 road games and nine home games in April?

I dont know if it is normal for the chapms to start the season on the road but I figured they would get to play their home opener on opening day.

Well couple of notes.
1) Boggs was just nasty, I have no idea what Matheny and Co. did to him, but he is just filthy.
2) If I ever see Sam LeCure go near a mound again, I will change the channel to something more interesting, like an info-mercial on ball bearings....
3) Hope Berkman is doing okay, it's probably been a long time since he legged out a triple.
4) I still want to see more from Holliday.
5) Starting pitchers for the Birds really seem to be on their game.

As long as he kept taking left turns instead of right turns ...

Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green? Why do I always get one of those caraway seeds stuck in my teeth when I eat a sandwich on Rye bread?
Because, that's why. There's no way to explain David Freese's awesomeness. He's awesome because he's awesome.

The turns weren't the problem. He struck out in his first AB. Second AB he hit a 2-hopper about 2 steps left of the shortstop. Most kids assume the tall kid is uncoordinated, and I think that happened here because the SS was lazy with the play and Bob beat the throw. The pitcher tried to pick him off and threw it away, but the ball hit off the first baseman, then off the screen and rolled back toward the first baseman. There was no reason to expect Bob to run, and the first baseman obviously didn't. Problem was Bob was already headed to 2nd and beat that throw. He stole 3rd on the next pitch. That's when it got fun.
With one out the batter hits a pop up behind 2nd about even with the grass. Bob stood, watched, waited and took off as soon as the ball was caught. He beat the throw home, problem was he stood and watched from the spot where he had taken his lead. He never tagged up, so he was out when tagged.
Next at bat he walked, stole 2nd and 3rd. With 1 out, the batter hit a ground ball to short, a play Bob should easily score on except that he went back to the base. Then, after the shortstop threw to first he took off for home. Luckily he just got in under the tag and made it anyway. But it was an adventure, and we'll be discussing baserunning the next chance we get.

That'll get better with reps. You'll know he's there when he does the right thing without having to think about it.
Baserunning is what got me into coaching. MYB runs this "winter clinic" in the high school gym. It's mostly a cash cow for the league. Kids pay $50 for instruction on a month of Sundays before the tryouts. The instructors are the guys who are going to coach in the league. We signed up Zach for his first year of eligibility, and I was kind of in a maybe-I-will, maybe-I-won't mode because I was working two nights a week and wasn't sure I'd have the time.
I hung out for about five minutes to watch the winter clinic and the coach at the baserunning station had the kids running the wrong way around the bases. So I figured I at least knew more than that guy.
