Don't know how much play this has gotten nationally, but the town of Foxboro handed a huge victory to the lesser 31 franchises during its municipal elections earlier this week.
Long story a little shorter, after watching its residents cross the border to gamble in Connecticut for the better part of a decade, the Massachusetts legislature last year - over the objections of the considerable We'll-tell-you-what's-good-for-you contingent - passed a bill that would allow up to three casinos in this state.
Krafty Bob immediately started playing slap-and-tickle with Steve Wynn, trying to convince him to build Vegas East across the street from the megamall that Kraft added onto his stadium a few years ago.
The Foxboro Board of Selectmen initially approved on a 3-2 vote to negotiate with these two turds. Then, this week, the Foxboro residents - the people who have watched Kraft obliterate their cozy little town - had their turn at the ballot box. Two of the pro-casino selectmen were dumped and replaced with hard-line anti-casino candidates. The day after the election, Wynn announced he was abandoning the Foxboro project.
To give you an idea of how much of a grip Kraft has on Roger Goodell's testicles, remember this was a league so opposed to any link to gambling that Pete Rozelle used to grouse about point spreads being published in the papers. But now it's OK for an NFL owner to collaborate with the guy who has the keys to almost every cash register in Las Vegas.
The revenue Kraft would have reaped from a casino partnership would have been astronomical, and in his vanity he would have poured huge resources into his football team. And if anyone believes the payroll figures the Patriots submit to the league for salary cap purposes are accurate, then they also must believe there was nothing on those tapes of the Rams walk-through practice prior to the Super Bowl before Goodell had them destroyed.

This is worse than the absurdity that Stan Kroenke pulled on St. Louis and the state.

There are rumors he's really over-extended himself because of the shopping mall, and he wants a casino to bail him out of the mess. He really over-estimated the size of his cult of personality. People put up with the drive to Foxboro because the Patriots win. They aren't going to go out of their way to eat at the Olive Garden.
