While we were sleeping, LA acquired Hanley and Hamels signed a $140 million extension with Philadelphia.

Id have to look up the detail to really give my opinion but first thought is Hanley will never be the player he is paid to be and Hamels was a good extension. Hanley isnt that good of a third baseman and his hitting isnt any better then last year. Unless the Marlins ate alot of salary this is a mistake IMO.

After reviewing it alittle I would say that Hamels is a stud but Id be alittle worried if I were the Phillies. They have alot wrapped up in starting pitching and their lineup isnt good.
As for the Marlins/Dodgers trade, the Dodgers defiinatly got better. I am still not a fan of Hanley. I think his flash in the pan as one of the leagues best players is over. He cost alot of money but only for a couple years. The Dodgers didnt give up much other then payroll and got two players that will really make a difference. Their punishment will be to over pay Hanley for 2 years. At 15.5 and 16 million it wont be that bad.
This puts the Dodgers and Phillies at 135million committed in 2013.

Yahoo:
"Seeking to revive a stagnant offense, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired third baseman Hanley Ramirez and reliever Randy Choate from the Miami Marlins in exchange for pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and minor-league pitcher Scott McGough, a source familiar with the trade said late Tuesday night.
"Ramirez will join the Dodgers in St. Louis and could initially play a game or two at third base for manager Don Mattingly, but has been told he should expect to cover for Dee Gordon at shortstop for a period of time."
This is probably a move the Dodgers had to make, but I'm not sure if they got the right guy. On the other hand, just about anyone is better than Adam Kennedy at third.
I liked Eovaldi the couple of times I've seen him pitch. He's not consistent, but not too many young pitchers are.
On the other end, it would be interesting to see if the dynamic changed between ownership in Miami and Hanley, or if this was strictly a personnel issue.

The more I think about Hanley the less negitive I am. LA might not be a bad place for him. He will no longer have to be a middle of the order hitter when the Dodgers are healthy. That might help him. Also if Manny can make it in LA the Hanley will be considered a saint.

If Miami had any real fans, would it shock anyone if they decided to go "Benito Mussolini" on Jeffrey Loria's ass?

One other question--with Cain's 6/$127M and Hamels' 6/$140M extensions, what will it cost the Cardinals to re-sign Wainwright?
More to the point, will the Cardinals be able/willing to get a deal done?

Ah, who cares. He's damaged goods. We'll have Lynn, Garcia, and Palettastein's monster (often referred to as Carpenstein). Why break the bank for a guy like Wainwright if he won't take a hometown discount?
Please, nobody hit me while my tongue's in my cheek.

It's hard to say what Wainwright could conceivably get. He's not a free agent until he turns 32, which lowers his leverage compared to Hamels (28) and Cain (27). My guess is that whatever Greinke signs for is what Wainwright can expect. Greinke doesn't have Cain's reputation as some mythical big game pitcher, so I'll peg their respective contracts around 6 years/$110 million.
The Cardinals' ability to afford that is a tough one, though. I don't know if they can.

Cubs fans are sniping at each other because of Dempster's shenanigans. I love it. These are the same dipshits who were smelling their own farts because Epstein rolled into town and it was just a matter of time before they were rolling over the NL. Now the big ticket free agent items (Cain, Hamels) are gone, which means Epstein is going to dramatically overpay for Michael Bourn or Josh Hamilton.

Cain preformed in the post season. That makes a guy alot of money. Like you said, Greinke has never pitched an important game in his life untill last year when he failed. Wainwright pitched well in the post season but that was 6 years ago and had a good game in 2009 is only postseason start during a nightmare series. Wainwright just miss a whole year to injury and is having a very average year this year. It is pretty clear he is on the right track and is regaining everything he lost. If the Cardinals wait till after the 2013 season to resign him they are basicly betting against him and figuring 2013 is going to be another average year or he is going to get reinjured. Every start he makes from here on out his value goes up. The sooner the better. It better happen during the off season.

The numbers Manny started putting up when he got to L.A. suggest he was back on his fertility medication.

I was talking about attitude fitting in more so then numbers when I mentioned Manny. Hanley has kind of been known to be a whiner.

Dempster has really got them by the balls. He has basicly said the brave trade was off and he wants to go to the Dodgers. He really took the power out of the cubs hands to force the Dodgers to offer much.

So the Angles have interest in Scrabble. Hard to believe the Cardinals would gain much by trading him. He sucks.

I think it was Colin Cowturd (credit: TK) on the radio the other day saying the Cardinals don't need to re-sign Wainwright because they've already proven they can win the World Series without him.
So under that rationale the focus ought to be on re-signing McClellan, not Wainwright.

I don't think Manny has ever fit in anywhere he's ever gone. The teams he played for elected to put up with his nonsense.

I don't remember from whom I heard this, but supposedly he prefers the Dodgers over the Braves because the Dodgers' Spring Training facility is in Arizona and the Braves' is in Florida.
That's sort of like buying a house next to the airport because you fly once a month.

They could send that Pujols fella back over. It would be hard to get him at bats in the Cardinals' lineup, but he'd be a decent right-handed bat off the bench.

And he is a free agent after this season. Why would the Dodgers resign him? They might but there is alot of things that can happen between now and then.
