Seems weird rooting for Dusty, Cueto and Phillips, but the Reds jump out to an early 2-0 lead against the Brewers.

A 7-pitch inning from Garcia is rarified air, then tops it off with a double ..

What is Harrell's deal? Must be a Springfield thing.

That's why I call Beltran lazy , right there ...

So I'm coming home and tune in KMOX to hear Shannon chuckling about Harrell's bad night and the fact he's already walked five batters. Then he tells me Beltran's at bat, 3-0 count, bases loaded, no outs. Then he says, "I wouldn't be surprised if they turn 'im loose here"; he and his sidekick agree "Why not?". While my mind struggles to understand this line of thinking, "Why not?" is answered emphatically. Then, of course, as the 1-2 pitch is delivered to Kozma, the station interrupts for a severe thunderstorm warning. Listening to Cards' baseball on the radio ain't what it used to be.

Rookie mistake by Matheny. You don't turn a guy loose on 3-0 when he's not proven at any point that he can find the plate.

Don't like this. Don't like it one bit ...

That's why Shannon's suggesting it surprised me.

Why do teams still run on Molina?

Which one? The hump-backed liner he misplayed, or the popup he jogged after and let fall in?

Final: Reds 4, Brewers 2.

He qualifies under both of 'em ....

I'll be honest, as hot as Milwaukee has been, I never really considered that LA might once again be the next closest team, but c'mon San Diego.
For Christsake. As if it wasn't bad enough I had to root for Janey Cueto, now I have to root for Sideshow Bob Volquez.

Wait. Is horseshit luck good or bad?

Did Kelly really hit 99 on a couple of pitches?

"I have to root for Sideshow Bob Volquez."
Yeah, you have to hold your nose a bit, but he's pitching against Beckett. When you're throwing shutouts in the World Series and dropping f-bombs every third word, you're refreshingly honest. When your ERA is north of 6.00 and you're dropping f-bombs, you're just a foul-mouthed jerk.

Good. Apparently it's a southern thing.

Is that a Crash Davis quote?

The FSH gun had his last pitch at 98. He's been consistently hitting 94-95 during his starts, so I wouldn't surprise me if he tickled 98-99 when he's airing it out for one inning.

If you say so. But if I stepped in a pile of horse manure, I wouldn't be thinking how lucky I am.

That would indeed be a derivative of his "You have fungus on your shower shoes ..." speech.
