Rain in the forecast today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Worst of it is supposed to be today.

We're already lined up with our best, most reliable pitcher for Game 7, unless we're hoping for rain until Garcia is better.

Speaking of which, did anyone else notice Westbrook in the dugout?  I think the sound was down by that time, so I don't know if the broadcast team mentioned it, but with Carp getting rocked, in all of the "what if's . . . " Westbrook maybe wonders "what if they'd given me a chance?"

The way Strauss is talking the Cardinals feel like they missed their chance and know what's coming.

Well, I'd hope the '12 Cardinals have a little bit more confidence in Lohse than the '96 Cardinals had in Osborne. FWIW, the Lohse I saw in the dugout last night looked focused and serious. I don't think he's going to come down with a case of the yips. But I'll allow that may be me projecting what I want to happen tonight, and what I saw last night may have been a look of discomfort from someone whose sphincter got tighter with the increased knowledge he is going to have to be The Mang tonight.

Did they do this in WWII?  If not, then I am fucking sick of this shit in the 7th inning stretch.

I think it got revived after 9/11. Because people needed to be reminded god likes us best.

Fast forward to 11 years after the end of WWII and people had moved on to Elvis and Sputnik.  If NASCAR wants to be bat-shit crazy I guess I'd never know, but why baseball?

Could be that "America's pastime" thing.

Re: Game 6 Gamecrap

If Lohse were a bit more mercenary, his knowledge that his payday swings by tens of millions of dollars based on his performance tonight would give him a hormone surge that would lead to a no-hitter.  It's funny, I like Lohse and like what he's done for the Cards, but part of what I like about him is his low-key-ness, and I don't see that translating into a greed fueled hormone surge.  I don't see him melting down, either; I think he'll be Lohse: pitch 6-7 and give up 1-3 runs.  The problem over the past two games has been our offense, one run in 18 innings isn't good enough.

Westbrook has been injured going back to the regular season.  I think it was an oblique injury and he aggravated it in a rehab session just before the season ended.

Strauss was saying this morning that Westbrook may be healthy enough to be added to the roster for the World Series, should they make it.  But it isn't like they left him off the roster for performance.  He wasn't healthy enough to pitch when this series began.

Well, it's all done but the doing of game 7. I ... and this is probably a bad habit to have, and relatively confident that this team will find a way. I'm sure one day they will break my heart, but .... can you really bet against them?

Lohse pitching. Last year I'd have shit myself hearing this, but he's been great this season, and a contract year.
If we lose we're out, so we don't lose. I have no idea why, we just don't.

I'll call the Cardinals to win, beat Cain a second time, and this time in front of the home crowd. Hopefully it doesn't come down to a 4 run top of the ninth inning, because I'm pretty sure each one of those takes 5 years off my lifespan...

4-2 Cardinals.

So long as it's 5 years off the end, it's just saving you several miserable years spent in a skilled nursing facility.  At least that's what I tell myself everytime I eat a bacon cheeseburger.

If every bacon cheeseburger you eat takes five years off your life, I died in 1985.

I hope you are right, and the 12-year old boy in me will put on my Cardinals cap and root 'til I'm hoarse.  But the practical adult tells me something doesn't feel right . . .

You're sticking to a much healthier lifestyle than I am.  If I'd have lost 5 years for every bacon cheeseburger, my obituary may have been in the old testament.

Confess I'm not a bacon cheeseburger guy. There's a lot going on with one of those, especially if you add condiments. And I'm not really that into bacon, but if I do it has to be done right. It can't be over-cooked, but it can't be rubbery either.

Have we drifted off-topic again?

Yeah, the vibe is a lot different. Last year, the playoffs were surreal because they were pronounced dead so many times from getting swept at home by the Dodgers in August until the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 6.
If they win tonight, it will feel more like relief because they didn't blow a 3-1 series lead. That's no way to head into a World Series.

btw, the "EPIC comeback" line was Carp's from NLDS Game 5.

I know.  But rephrased when and where it was, it sounded like one of those prophecies from the Oracle at Delphi that could be taken multiple ways.

I got that, although I'm not sure I'd categorize a comeback from down three games to one against the Cardinals as "epic". This franchise has blown such leads three times previously.

I also have the same feeling you and the other guys do, so my pep talk to the team would emphasize that You Are The World Fucking Champions. Now Get Your Asses Out There And Remind The World Why!

Well I was only off by 7 runs on the Giants side, and 4 runs on the St. Louis side.

+/- 11 runs for all future picks.

Good season anyway.
