I thought this was interesting. A couple quick thoughts are that I dont see these big TV deals as good for the game. I dont like the idea of Pujolsish contracts flying around the league. It isnt something I am interested in the Cardinals doing as far as signing monster deals. I think it would be hard to watch a player make 30 million dollars and enjoy it.
Secondly I think the market for the cardinals is being understated. The Cardinals probably have the biggest area around them without a MLB team. Chicago to Atlanta/Texas and Colorado to Cincinnati.

Forgot about the Royals but that doesnt change much.

I don't think the loyalties are a broad as you think AP. Headed west, once you reach Columbia, you enter Royals territory. Once you pass Springfield, Ill., you find a lot more Cubs fans. Not sure about Iowa, but with the various minor league teams up there, my guess is you have a mix of Cubs, Twins and Brewers. The Cardinals probably have their broadest reach to the south. With Memphis still the AAA affiliate, my guess is you have Cardinals fans down into parts of Mississippi and Alabama. But quite frankly, that's more college football territory than it is MLB territory.
The Cardinals will certainly get a boost whenever they re-do their current TV contract, but they aren't competing with LA, NY or Texas.

In terms of human population, maybe. But it's a long way from Seattle to any other MLB team. Likewise for Phoenix. Distances are huge out this way.
