Day 94
He was being strongly linked to the Brewers on Monday, but they are not enthusiastic about giving up the 17th pick in the draft.
I went back and forth on how much Lohse would wind up getting, but I would've never guessed four months ago that he winds up being unsigned into February.

think there is any chance he gets a one year deal?

I suspect he may want a one year deal with a guarantee that the team he signs with doesn't tie him to draft pick compensation next off-season.
Then again, I thought Rafael Soriano was going to get shut out of the market. Boras may still pull something out of his bag of tricks, but it's looking less and less likely at this point.

Can he do that?

Good question.

Don't know for sure, but I seem to remember under the old system that players would enter into agreements whereby the team agreed not to offer arbitration which had the same effect.

Ah you're right. Good point.

If it comes nut cutting time would Loshe's and the Cardinals best interest be to come up with a contract. If Loshe cant get signed the Cardinals dont get a comp pick and Loshe doesnt get paid. i do assume Loshe will sign but who knows at this point.

I think the Cardinals and Lohse are done with each other.

Agreed. Garcia's shoulder is being held on with baling wire and duct tape and Carpenter is a question mark to finish the season before it begins, but I suspect the team is ready to find out what it has in guys like Miller, Rosenthal and/or Kelly.

Day 95.
No updates today. LaTroy Hawkins signed with the Mets, so whoever had him signing before Lohse wins a prize.

I still can't believe Michael Bourn is out there.

There has been so much turnover in centerfielders this off-season, I'm not sure where he lands.
Although if Bourn decides to take a 1 year deal and try again next off-season, how scary might he look atop the Rangers' lineup?

Teams still remember Chone Figgins.

Day 96
Chris Duncan said yesterday that Kyle Lohse will be good when he's 37.

Pretty sure Chris Duncan once said he could play left field.

Id be scared shitless to sign Loshe. He has had 5 winning season
Twice with the Twins when he was 23 and 24:
2002 13-8, 4.23 ERA
2003 14-11, 4.61 ERA
Three times with the Cardinals when he was 29, 32 and 33
2008 15-6, 3.78 ERA (walk year)
2011 14-8, 3.39 ERA
2012 16-3, 2.86 ERA (walk year)
He is much closer to the mid 4 ERA and sub .500 winning % he posted prior to coming to STL. He screams a repeat of jeff Suppan or joel Pinerio? I cant believe the Brewers would consider him. He never posted a sub 4 ERA outside of his time in STL.

Chris Duncan is my all time favorite flash in the pan Cardinal

I predict that he ends up in either Texas or Baltimore. He might be fine in Texas since the AL West (save for Arlington) is a wasteland for hitters. But if he goes to Baltimore, he's going to get hit hard.

Interesting topic. I'd have to go with Tom Lawless. He didn't even have flash in the pan. It was more like a bolt of lightning you swear you never saw. Or Glen Brummer. How many guys can say their lone career highlight was a steal of home?
Then there's Bud Smith. And who was that guy a few years ago who threw a no-hitter despite giving up about a 37 walks? Jose Jimenez?

if Baltimore makes the playoffs again next season, I'll swim from Massachusetts to Maryland.

Joe McEwing?
Don't these guys deserve some respect?
