See, you can't do that every night. If you get a guy warm in the bullpen, it's just like an appearance. And those pitches add up. If LaRoche ties it, have Mujica get you out of the ninth, and then get Kelly ready for the 10th.
I was just going to post this. Imo, looking at managing as a fan i would say getting pitchers up in the pen is the hardest part of a managers job.
Absolutely. He also had Choate throwing in the eighth last night, in case it came down to Harper and/or LaRoche in that inning. I can see that, but why not go to him anyway in the ninth to face those two guys and bring in Mujica if one of them gets on? It's not like Mujica is the second coming of Mariano Rivera and he's going to get offended if someone else starts the ninth inning.
well i think he was scared to take the ball from waiwright, being that he had a shutout going. I would have p,ayed that about like mm did. He let wainwright go out there but yanked him pretty quick. You could tell gojng in that wainwright was gassed but with the pen in the shape it is in and wainwright put up a zero you about have to give him a chance.

I know the blown save is a relatively new statistic, but Carlos Marmol has to be on pace to personally set the record for most blown saves by an entire team.I thoight the cubs banished him as closer.
He's not the closer, but Sveum brought him in to face Votto last night because Votto had been something like 1-for-15 with nine strikeouts against him, and Marmol made him look silly on Monday night.
Votto actually hit a pretty good pitch from Marmol last night to drive in the trying run. It was a slider that was down and in, and Votto hit a 6-hopper up the middle that Barney just missed with a dive.
The pitcher who took over for Marmol after he lost the closer's job promptly went on the DL, so Marmol may be back in the role. On the bright side, the Cubs are so bad, Sveum rarely has to decide who to turn to in that situation.

"I still can figure out why rosenthal has been more effective this year. His stuff seems good."
Location. It seems like every AB he throws at least one pitch down the middle, or too close to the middle. And hitters have pretty much ruled out everything but the fastball, because his other stuff isn't reliable.
He'll get better. Remember, he's a 23-year-old kid who was pitching in Quad Cities 18 months ago.

I think i let my mind get spoiled by a guy i was really unsure about for along time, motte. He was really good last year and had only been pitching for a few years. I guessi figure anyone who has actually got more then one pitch to go with their 100mph fastball they should be good to go.

Since Marmol got demoted and Fujikawa went on the DL, they picked up Kameron Loe and Kevin Gregg after they were both cut loose and have used Gregg in high-leverage situations the last two nights.
Idiot Sidekick reported last night that "Gregg comes in from the bullpen throwing strikes." Good scouting report. Gregg's career BB/9 IP rate is 4.1. Ubaldo Jimenez has a better BB/9 rate.

I think so. Because Gregg couldn't throw strikes. BTW, Marmol's BB/9 is off the charts bad. Something like 6 or 7 for his career.
