Not surprisingly, the Cardinals announce that they're using a 4 man rotation for the next few series. I'm somewhat surprised though that Miller is apparently making his scheduled starts. I thought they might use this as a chance to limit his innings.

That would have been a good idea. Miller has given up four runs in two of his last three starts, and left the other one after five innings because of leg cramps. It might be time to back off the pedal just a bit.

If have done something like this:
Tonight- Lynn
6/28- Wainwright
6/29- Kelly
6/30- Westbrook
7/2- Lynn
7/3- Wainwright
7/4- Miller
7/5- Westbrook
7/6- Kelly
7/7- Lynn
7/9- Wainwright
7/10- Westbook
7/11- Kelly
7/12- Lynn
7/13- Miller
7/14- Wainwright
That gets you to the All-Star Break, and Miller probably skips the equivalent of 3-4 turns in the rotation.

I'd maybe flop Kelly and Miller to give the former two starts and the latter three, but conceptually you've nailed it.

Which may be what they're doing. My thought is right now Kelly needs to pitch to stretch his arm (if he isn't going to start up here until July 6, I'd send him to Memphis for a start) and Miller could use the rest.

i worry about lynn to. He wore down last year. He is in better shape but it still worries me. If miller and lynn tank because they are out of gas this season goes in the crapper overnight.

I won't be a bit surprised of the mid-season fix this year is a starter.

I did a little surfing and found out Alan Ashby is the ponderous pile of pablum who is doing the color commentary for FSN Houston. It amuses me that nearly a decade later they still refer to Beltran as a "former Astro." Kind of like saying Eric Clapton played guitar for Delaney & Bonnie. It's not inaccurate, but he did some stuff before and after, too.

When Chris Carpenter comes back, it will be like acquiring an all-star at the trade deadline without having to give up prospects.

It should be. It's the most glaring area of need.
That and a RH bat off the bench (yes, I know Wigginton is an amazing influence on the bench, but he sucks on the field.).

It's a fair concern, but you'd hope Lynn would be in line for a natural progression in innings.
In 2011, Lynn only pitched 120.2 innings (including post-season). In 2012, he pitched 187 innings. With that sort of increase, it isn't a surprise he wore down. But having pitched 187 last year, you'd hope he could jump into the 200 range.

i am in favor of the team adding a solid 3 or 4 pitcher. That way using miller and wacha toward the end of the season is optional.

"That way using miller and wacha toward the end of the season is optional."
With Miller, I would think they want to see a natural progression in his innings total. I believe last season he ended with about 150. Something in the neighborhood of 175-180 shouldn't be out of the question. Much more than that is pushing it.
With regard to Wacha, I'm not so certain he's the next guy back from Memphis. It sounds like Martinez is tearing it up since returning to Memphis. He might be next in line.
But your original statement about adding a pitcher still makes sense for them.

Pirates 2, Mariners 1, B5
But King Felix has nine strikeouts, so it's all good.

Maybe the Mariners will get tired of his unwillingness to win and trade him to the Cardinals for Ty Wigginton, who can mentor their shitty hitters.

Farrell got six innings out of Lackey. Time to yank him and pray for a win.

Ibanez ties the game with a solo homer in Seattle.
A.J. Griffin shuts out TTTIB on two hits. Anyone have a feeling the Cardinals are going to walk into a shitstorm in Oakland this weekend?

Yeah, I'm pretty worried about this series.
On a bittersweet note, since trading for Choo he has gone in the tank. You're all welcome.

Would the King's Court come with him? The Cardinals could use a bunch of pasty geeks who only pay attention when an opposing batter has two strikes on him.

You're doing what you can to help the Cardinals.
I'm in on a mega-trade in my league. I'm sending Waino, Verlander and Hamilton for Goldschmidt, CarGo and Weaver. The kicker is Goldschmidt was a 12th round pick two years ago, so I get him as a keeper in that round next season, and I gain a 3rd round pick by dealing Hamilton, who has sucked this season.

The Seattle Mariners are not a good baseball team.

Wow. That was a freakin' BOMB by Molina.

If no one else is going to point it out, I will--how pathetic is it that the RH bat on the bench that doesn't have a defensive position to play isn't playing on a night that Matheny went with as right-handed a lineup as possible in a game where they get to use the DH. If that's not an indictment of Wigginton's lack of skill, I don't know what would be.

I think Lynn would rather be throwing to someone other than Cruz.
