deadline debate

My opinion is the cardinals needs are oppisite of what they say they are.  I think they need a ss and a sp.  The fo say bullpen help is more likely.

I dont see any hope of getting a ss.  There are no options out there on the market.

Here is a list of pitchers that beacherreport has ranks as top pitchers who might be on the move.

Ricky nolasco
jake peavy
yonvani gallaro
bud norris
matt garza
Cliff lee

Another internet site adds to the list

Ted lilly
David price
ra dickey

Knowing the cardinals they are likely in ted lilly or bud norris mode if they are looking at all

Re: deadline debate

I doubt the Cubs or Brewers will deal within the division, so Gallardo and Garza are unlikely. ESPN reported yesterday that Nolasco would be moved sooner rather than later, and the leaders were the Dodgers, Rockies and Rangers.

There was an infatuation with Norris before the season, so that's probably a possibility. Lucas Harrell was also mentioned before the season.

I'll throw one more name in the mix, but with the NL West being so tight, his team may not be selling--Jason Marquis. He's having a good year, but if SD believes it has a shot, they may not move him.

Re: deadline debate

Bernie has an artical that brings up just how shitty jon jay has been.  Maybe that is the offensive upgrade the team needs.  I didnt see much of the game last night but i did see him show off his womenly arm on a throw to first.

Re: deadline debate

It's interesting to see the tide turn on Jay. It backs up my thoughts from two years ago that people didn't really love Jon Jay; they just really hated Colby Rasmus. Most fans' memories of Rasmus are far enough away that they are more observant of his shortcomings.

I agree that fans, including me, disliked rasmus.  However i dont think there was a total love fest with jay.  Artie started the "jon jay is god" thing but i dont think that was serious.  rasums still isnt tearing it up.  He is having a bit of a power surge this year tho.

Idk who is out there to help the cardinals in the outfield.

I realize it's almost pointless to bring this up, but Ryan Jackson is still hitting .307 in Memphis.

the roster is so fucked.  Wiggington is a roadblock.  Say they want to bring jackson up and throw him in the lineup once or twice a week, they likely dont want to demote kozma.  At the same time having kozma, jackson, wiggington and descalso all on the roster is impossible.  speaking of descalso, maybe he should be more involved.  his ops is 150 points higher then kozma and his production (descalso 3/23 vs kozma 1/27) is baskcly the same.  Descalso has almost half as many pa as kozma.

He's Bo Hart. Haven't you heard?

I like Jay. A lot. But there's a huge difference between Jon Jay hitting .300 and Jon Jay hitting .250.

If he can hit .270 or whatever he is hitting over 500 ab he is a everyday major leaguer.

i look at it like this.  Jon jay and pete kozma are not the long term solution to cf or ss.  By long term i am talking as soon as next year.  Both positions need upgrades and the team can afford to do it.  Also wong carp or freese are going to be traded.  When is the best time to pull the trigger?

Bernie wrote the other day that the Cardinals are simply not at all impressed by Jackson's bat or his glove. It's an odd, odd thing, but they are willing to let Kozma rot out there every day and eat Wiggy's salary rather than give him a chance. As far as I know nobody has articulated what's wrong with Jackson.

As for Rasmus, he's a .240 hitter who is probably going to hit over 20 home runs. I haven't watched enough Blue Jays games to know what his defense is like, but there's value in his bat. I said last year that the Cardinals made the right decision after all, but if Jon Jay is going to play atrocious both ways...

Skip is better then jay.  It was a nice 8 months or whatever but jay is less impressive everyday.

Dodgers get Nolasco for 3 minor league pitchers.

Re: deadline debate

None in the Dodgers Top 10 apparently.

The Cardinals were never mentioned as suitors. I haven't read of them being linked to anyone, so I don't think they see a need for another starter.

Could the cards have match this offer easy?  Sometimes i think a team with less to offer can make these trades better then a team like the cards.  There is less to ask for.

Re: deadline debate

Apparently the Dodgers agreed to pay all of Nolasco's remaining salary which is why they were able to get by with giving up lesser prospects.

Re: deadline debate

So berkman just went on the dl.  I assume the rangers would be very interested in adams.  Does anyone thing we could make him the center piece of a trade for one of there young ss.  it is an idea but idk how andrus is going to turn out and i am not sure the rangers woukd part with profar.

I think I read somewhere that Texas planned on moving Kinsler to LF next season to make room for Profar.

Re: deadline debate

Texas acquired Matt Garza for 4 minor leaguers, including Mike Olt and CJ Edwards.
