Re: deadline debate

Someone asked about Ryan Jackson a few weeks ago, and I saw this article today as I was surfing. It's a couple of weeks old, but it suggests he's still "waiting for an opportunity."

Re: deadline debate

FWIW- Jayson Stark is reporting that the Cardinals (among others) had a scout at today's CWS/Det game in which Peavy started.  Maybe they are interested for the right price.

If I were the person in charge of music when Wilson was closing, I'd have played "Don't Worry, Baby" when he entered a game. And maybe "Good Vibrations" whenever a batter whiffed against him.

"Little Deuce Coupe" after Yadi drops down two fingers for a curveball? Wait, that might be tipping.

Re: deadline debate

Scott Downs traded to Atlanta.

Looks like the Anaheim fire sale is underway.

Jake Peavy and Cy Norris have both been scratched from their respective starts tonight. Hmmm ....

Re: deadline debate

Multiple sources reporting Boston has a deal in place for Peavy.

Edit: The only source thus far is Jon Heyman, with multiple re-Tweets.

Re: deadline debate

Is there any use listen to national media hot stove shit?  Peter gammons said the cardianls are going to add a secondary level catcher.  Why?  They have that.  He also said they might "upgrade" ss by adding a guy through waiver trade like brendan ryan.  Ive heard this before.  It is the dumbest thing ive ever heard.

They have to do something to fill up the time they've allotted for the trade deadline. Times have changed. Teams would rather hold onto prospects than trade them away for rentals, there are more teams that are still contenders because of the second wild card, and there just isn't a lot of help out there this year. When Bud Freakin' Norris is the most valuable commodity on deadline day, it tells me there's just not a lot going on.

Re: deadline debate

The D'Backs traded Ian Kennedy to San Diego for a relief pitcher, minor league pitcher and a competitive balance draft pick.

Somone want to help me understand why Arizona traded a 21 game winner when they're 3.5 games out of first?

"Somone want to help me understand why Arizona traded a 21 game winner when they're 3.5 games out of first?"

Josh Collmenter is blackmailing Kirk Gibson for a spot in the rotation after finding out Gibby mistakenly hit "send to all" when he was trying to email photos of his penis to Anthony Weiner's wife?
It's a theory. It's probably wrong.

So when there is no news just make it up.  Gammons has been around forever.  I would think he would be better then that.

Re: deadline debate

"Gammons has been around forever.  I would think he would be better then that."

Gammons is one of the worst when it comes to inventing trade rumors. Remember the "Curt Schilling will be traded to the Cardinals any day now" nonsense a few years ago? I actually got excited about that for awhile.
I don't think it's malicious, at least from Gammons. One of his sources tells him something, he repeats it on the air, other reporters cite it because Gammons said it, and it takes off. Gammons is lousy on TV. He should have never left print. He writes like a poet, and except for box scores his baseball notes column that used to appear in the Boston Globe on Sundays was about the only other source of information I had about the Cardinals until the advent of the internet.
