Choo on third, Votto on first, one out. Phillips hits a fly ball to right and breaks into his home run trot. But the game is in a real park (Atlanta), so the ball is about 25 feet short of the fence. The right fielder, though, loses the ball in the sun, and it drops. Choo scores, and Votto comes all the way around, beating the throw by a step even though he doesn't slide. Votto immediately turns to Bruce, who was on deck, and starts screaming at him for not being in a position to tell him to slide.
This is why TTTIB has never won anything of substance under Baker. Because they care more about how they look than how they play.

Not exactly tearing the cover off the ball, but it's good to get an early lead.

I feel so much more enlightened now that I know Buster Olney's picks for the Home Run Derby.

Hard to imagine the thing the Cardinals are missing the most so far in this game is Matt Holliday's defense.

Matt Adams needs to play more.

Oh look. Alfonso Soriano struck out on a breaking ball. Go figure.

Knock that ball down and you save a run. Very bad play and an example why the cubs are the cubs.

Lot of deep counts for Wainwright , but screwed there...

That was downright weird.

I like Yadi as much as the next guy, but in about a half-inning Hershiser is going to have him discovering fire, inventing the wheel and mapping the human genome.

The 2-2 pitch to Ransom has to be called a strike. It just has to.

It's great that Matheny is so confident in Rosenthal, but when you have a chance to bust the game open, you take it.

Great managing.
The 8th inning was mis-managed about as badly as I've ever seen in a major league game by anyone not named Jim Tracy.

He'd already thrown about two dozen pitches and then had to sit for 20 minutes in the top of the eighth.

Beltran is an outstanding base runner. That was a terrific heads up play.
