Just noticed that Matt Carpenter is ahead of Votto and Jay is only 4 behind him. That's even worse.
But he's so disciplined at the plate.
Exactly. Carpenter is pretty disciplined too, but he didn't hesitate to jump on that pitch from Parra to drive in a run, did he?

Rosenthal has been a little shaky lately ...

Henderson made it interesting as hell. Walker led off the inning with a line drive right at Gennett, then McCutchen doubled. Roenicke goes out to talk to Henderson about how to pitch to Alvarez. Henderson then proceeds to throw seven consecutive fastballs - the only thing Alvarez can hit - and walks him to put the winning run on base. After a mound conference with the manager.
Martin flies out to left center for the second out, no advance for the runners. Henderson almost castrates Gaby Sanchez with the first pitch, gets a gift of a call for a strike on a pitch three inches off the outside corner, eventually goes to 3-2 to put the runners in motion and then gets Sanchez to ground out to short.

Yeah, I'm starting to worry he's running on fumes.

Holliday ought to consider playing in a layer of bubble wrap.

Figured we'd see Shano after that series of events.

Anyone want to place odds that Wainwright drills someone tomorrow night? Votto perhaps.

Nah. Let 'em keep sleeping. I don't think Simon was throwing at Holliday anyway. I'm not sure what Simon was trying to do tonight.

Wouldnt it be fun to visit whatever message board Yahoo Danny infested after Yahoo shut down its boards?

Danny's hanging from a shower rod in the spare bathroom in his parents' basement, but here's a sampling of some of the angst from Cincinnati.com:
Drain the swamp: "a first basemen with his head so far up his own sphincter he doesn't know how many outs there are, worst base-running in the history of the game, as fundamentally sound as the Bad News Bears. a fat, out of shape #1 starter who is now untradeable and likely to be on the DL, a bullpen full of bum arms, a closer who blows up every time he allows a baserunner, and a lame duck manager who appears to be in a coma most of the time. How we lookin'? Not good."
It's Dusty's fault because, like every other African-American, he has no desire to live in Cincinnazi: "I see a team that is so talented, that they'll win enough games to get into a 1 game wild card. I see no leadership, no identity, no sense of urgency, no character in this club at all. I see a manager who fills out a lineup card and nothing more. Dusty Baker just seems like he is collecting a check. He doesn't live in Cincinnati. he hasn't done anything to become a part of the cummunity in Cincinnati. He flies out the day after the season and is gone until opening day of the next season. The Reds are a collection of players that show up much like a slow pitch softball team does. Somebody makes out the lineup, but from there on out.....it's a bunch of guys standing around until it's their turn to hit."
I stopped caring: "I quit watching when Cozart tried to run over Bruce at 3rd base. You know, the players don't realize the fans pay their wages and the fans deserve a little bit in return than the players seem to want to give them. Too many individual and no team players - or mangers and coaches - or upper management."
I didn't care after I stopped caring: "i will not watch! i saw on espn scroll it was 2-0. i looked at my wife and said its over. low a behold the 2 runs held up! this team is pathetic!"
I care more than they do (please note the exhausive use of cliches): "I was at the game last night sitting about 20 rows up from the Cardinals dugout. I was totally embarrassed by the Reds play last night. We got to the stadium very early, and went and stood along the 3rd base line while the team was doing their warm ups and stretching. There were a small gathering of Reds fans there, not one single player came over to the wall to sign autographs, until Ludwick was heading towards the dugout. I hollered " Hey Luddy", and he promptly came over to the wall and signed about a dozen autographs and was very cordial. Every other player acted as if they could care less that we were there to see them play. Then the whole debacle of a game. If I can say it in one word " Fundamentals". It was a blunder all the way around. This team continues to play scared. They have that deer in the headlight look. Whatever resemblance of swagger they had from last year is a distant memory. I think they went out this year and expected to win like it was going to be given to them on a silver platter. Leadership starts from the top down, and this team clearly has none."
We couldn't beat my wife: "Absolutely ridiculous game. It looked like a professional baseball team vs. a pee wee team, in all aspects."
The fans are smarter than the general manager: "sadly Walt and BOB are happy with this team.. we fans are not stupid or blind.. we see the mess.."
They'll never get another dollar from me!! ...: "ITS no longer a sporting event. It's now an entertainment event, Look at any home game, most fans travel to the BANKs, eat, drink, and go to the game by 3 rd inning. After game, its fireworks - hit banks for drinks and food or go home."
... ever again!!: "I'm done. don't care what u do over the off season. FINISHED."
Thorazine, stat!: IF we get swept tonight by the Cards(Cause Homer hasn't been able to beat them AT ALL), then lose the Rockies series, come home get beat by the Cards AGAIN, Dodgers, then the even the Cubbies.....whew..... THEN CAN WE FIRE THE Arssclown that leading us into battle every game & his crew of misfits? Jesus Berry throw a stop sign up at the LAST possible moment, make Bruce stop when he shoulda kept coming to force the issue(And the throw was up the line anyways!), then Cozart gets blamed for all of it when it was the coaches fault as well! Even Crusty said last night that these guys got to be held accountable(AS DOES HE!), so time to shape up or ship the heck out, all you whiners who can't seem to get the intestinal fortitude that my wrestling show talked about years ago to go out and play this game with some heart & baseball IQ, then sit your collective butts on the bench TOGETHER, AS A TEAM!! I'm tired of the defending by coaches and fans on here, these guys are lacking discipline, structure, guts, heart, hitters 3-5 to START hitting this series guys HELLO BP..JV... ARE YOU EVEN THERE(Not turning a double play when you could've and calling off the catcher & putcher who had better line to make a out on a bunt, then not being able to throw him out YOURSELF MR LEADER OF OUR TEAM!)??, and most of all leadership to run this idiots of the asylum. If Castellini doesn't fire Dusty, his coaches, and WALT JOCKETTY for sitting on his arss watching this fiasco, then he should sell the dam team himself, and learn to open a checkbook, make some trades to BETTER this team, why not get PENCE, and sit Ludwigs hopelessly lost arss on the bench, and get Frazier out of the 2 hole, because he sucks there too! JESUS CHRIST!! Please help us in our time of need, and take away the sin that's Crusty Baker from our lives!"
And my favorite: "Reds fans would be a lot happier if they just did what most mid-westerners have done - become Cardinals fans."

OMG, this had me crying I was laughing so hard. I have to admit, over the last few years I have developed an absolute, complete hatred of Cincinnati. I love their misery.

Your post made me go to the website to peruse a little. While there, I came across this golden nugget from one of the spotrswriters:
I TOLD YOU SO #3: While Matt Holliday and Allen Craig are ripping it up with RISP, Joey Votto is walking. All hail the mighty walk.
He’s not making outs! Look at his OBP! His OPS! His WAR! You know nothing!
OK.
This isnt to rip Votto. He’s having a good year.
Is he helping his team win big games?
You answer that one.
If Baker were to slide him into the 2-hole, his #s would be fabulous. He’s not getting paid mega-millions to be a No.2 hitter. He’s being paid superstar money to hit 30 home runs and 45 doubles and drive in 110 runs. And walk 120 times. He could still have all those wonderful #s that make the metrics guys drool. He could also have the power numbers that make the traditionalists happy. That’s what he’s being paid to do.
Votto is a very difficult out, obviously. Is he best serving his team by being Walkman? Walk-o-matic?
Not batting 3rd.

ST. LOUIS -- Right-hander Michael Blazek will be joining the Cardinals' bullpen on Wednesday, taking the roster spot of Carlos Martinez, who has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
Martinez will not be gone for long though, as he'll be eligible to rejoin the big league team on Tuesday, the day after the Triple-A season ends. The Cards made a similar move a day earlier by optioning Tyler Lyons in order to help stock the bullpen.
With Martinez being sent down for six days, he no longer is in the mix to start for St. Louis on Sunday. That means the Cardinals are likely to give that game to Joe Kelly, who, because of Thursday's off-day, would still be pitching on normal five days' rest. Adam Wainwright would then pitch Monday, and the Cards would plug Lyons or Martinez in to start Tuesday.
This will be Blazek's fourth callup to the Majors this season. He has appeared in 10 games, striking out 10 and allowing 10 hits, nine walks and eight earned runs. - - -Langosch
