I think we forget how lousy Ron Washington is because we barely ever see him. He brings in Cotts, who is usually murder on lefties, in the ninth. That turns Walker around, which is fine because Walker sucks as a right-handed hitter. Then McCutchen triples, which brings up Morneau, who is left-handed but is 6-for-11 against Cotts. Morneau hits a hard 1-hopper at Kinsler, who throws out McCutchen who was breaking on contact. Then Washington has to bring in Soria to strike out Byrd to end the inning.
It worked, but Washington burned arguably the best left-handed reliever in the American League without him facing Alvarez.
