Obamacare

Well i am a 5%er.  Not exactly me but my wife is.  Still it is my problem to figure something out.  How this lays out for us is my wifes premium is going to more then double.  She cant be on my insurance through my employer because it is even more expensive.  Everyday i read storys about obamacare.  This that and the other.  What it never says is answers.  My wifes ins is cancled in jan.  The obabma shit doesnt work.  Wtf are we supposed to do.  Private companies dont know what to do with everything in limbo.  This has to be the biggest political blunder of all time.  For most it doesnt matter.  For that 5% it is confusing and really unfair.  It puts in a spot that could force us to not have health care when the bill was supposed to domthe opposite.  When we get it it will be double the cost.  Despite being only 200% of the poverty line we still dont qualify for any government money because we are just insuring one person.  However if all four members of the family needed the insurance it would be free.  What kind of logic is behind that.  I am for one of two things.  Either the government needs to take over health care and deal with it from start to finish or they need to stay out of it.  This business of being half in and half out is just fucking it up.

Re: Obamacare

I don't have an answer for your situation , and I'm sure my situation down the road . I have a built in filter in my tv's that any time Obama, Pelosi, or Reed come on , my tv automatically changes channels...

Re: Obamacare

My family coverage through work is going up $200/month, and that's only after the firms switched insurance carriers.

Obamacare has been a complete disaster. But who'd have guessed that would happen considering they didn't read it before they passed the law.

Re: Obamacare

It was hard to have an i formed opinion on obamacare prior to its launch because nobody knew what it was.  Not know was good reason to worry i guess.  This couldnt have been a bigger fail.  It is costing everyone more money.  The problem with the american health care system is it is to costly.  Only washington could make things worst while trying to make them better.

Yeah I'm doing some searching for healthcare myself, and I'm simply going to say that if you're seeking independent coverage you might as well just go without. I can either spend 500.00 a month for myself with a 2000.00 deductible, or I can spend 150.00 a month with a 6000.00 deductible where they pay NOTHING until after 6000.00 is met....

Considering I typically go to a doctor about 2 times a year, I'm open to anyone telling me which of these makes sense, because my current plan is 2000.00 deductible with higher copays, and costs me 130.00 a month....

Fortunately the one year extension I believe means I can keep my current plan until July of 2015 before I'm thrown to the proverbial wolves here. I'm hoping they can fix this shit before then.

"The problem with the american health care system is it is to costly."

Bingo. The insurance companies and the health care providers have this arrangement where the doctors charge $50 for a friggin' cotton ball, the insurance companies pass it along and they both make money. You can't have affordable health care if the people who are providing it and the people who are underwriting it run it as a business first and aren't the least bit interested in making health care affordable. I'm hoping there's a failure to acknowledge that and not a failure to recognize it, because if it's the latter then the people who run our government truly are clueless.
I'm sorry you guys are having so much difficulty with this and it's so cost-prohibitive. Universal, affordable health care can work. Really. Most civilized countries undertook it years ago without nearly as much difficulty, and I can tell you the transition in states - or at least one state - that adopted it was as seamless as signing up for cable television.
Why the federal government has so much difficulty providing what should be a basic service at a reasonable cost is mystifying, infuriating, depressing and probably a whole lot of other things that would piss me off more if I took more time to think about them.

That's kind of where I'm at, and most of America was pretty sleepy-eyed when the Republicans rioted and tried stopping the entire government to prevent this thing. In America's defense however, both of these groups of assclowns have been sniping at each other non-stop for my entire life, and this just looked like the latest temper tantrum. Turns out this needed serious attention.

I'm hopeful that they can get together and rectify this failed system. Obama wanted all Americans to have a fair shake at affordable healthcare. There's nothing wrong with that goal, it's even noble. This implementation however just absolutely buttfucked the entire US working class (maybe more) in the name of helping out a much smaller % of people in the need. I know healthcare is expensive, clean sterile tools and facilities have to be maintained and filled with highly educated people to administer care. But are you telling me that 3% of the pre-existing condition group is so expensive that my premium either needs to be quadrupled or my deductible tripled, or a combination of the two so there's enough pooled money to proivde????

I seriously fucking doubt it.

"America was pretty sleepy-eyed when the Republicans rioted and tried stopping the entire government to prevent this thing."

Not to make this too partisan, but the Republicans bitched and moaned about Obama before he was even inaugurated, so it's understandable that everyone's eyes were glazed over when they tried to make even a little bit of sense. To an extent, they have their own hyperbole to blame. When your stated goal is to make sure the president's policies fail so he won't get re-elected, people aren't going to listen to you after a while. To say nothing of the notion that you're not serving the best interests of the country.
Which is not to say I've always been enthralled with everything the Democrats have done. I fully admit I bought the "Hope & Change" thing, and I'd still rather have eight years of Obama than one day of The Decider, but the fears that Obama wasn't ready for the job to which he elected him have mostly come true. Of course, the reasonable people who made that argument in 2008 got elbowed aside by people who claimed he's a Muslim Socialist (or was it a Socialist Muslim?), and to the extreme racists who just couldn't handle the idea a man of color could be president.

Re: Obamacare

So I got the good news yesterday.  Thanks to the President's wonderful new law--you know, the one no one read before it was actually signed and passed--our firm had to switch insurance carriers in order to avoid a more costly spike in insurance premiums.  But hey, now I get a choice.

I can choose plan A, which doesn't include about half of the hospitals in the St. Louis area and will require my wife to seek a new OB-GYN and allergist to avoid out of network costs.  That plan will only cost me $968.57 per month.

Or I can choose plan B.  It includes all of the St. Louis area hospitals, and all of Michele's current physicians would be in network.  That plan will ONLY cost me $1,156.99 per month.

But don't call it Obamacare anymore.  Now that they realized it's a complete clusterfuck, the President no longer wants his name associated with it.

Re: Obamacare

Nothing like affordable healthcare eh Fors? We're living the life of luxury I tell you. I'm so glad they fixed it!

Next time just send a government dude to my door and when I answer he can pistol whip me, drag me out back, kick me in the groin a few hundred times, and then shoot me in the face.

Far less painful... My ex didn't extort me like this new HELLCare plan crap is.

Re: Obamacare

Has anyone else had the experience of learning they now have coverage for conditions that are physically impossible?  I haven't looked close enough into my own policy to know, but one of my friends--a guy--told me that part of the reason his health insurance premium increased is that the law requires him to have coverage in case he gets pregnant.

Makes sense.

"part of the reason his health insurance premium increased is that the law requires him to have coverage in case he gets pregnant."

Does that mean his health insurance plan will pay for birth control pills if he chooses to take them?
