This guy may be a Cubs fan, but otherwise, he's spot on. I'm sick of this "Cardinal Way" nonsense. They're a baseball team. Not a Way of life.

Couldn't agree more. "Cardinal Way," "Best Fans in Baseball" It's all sanctimonious BS

The BFIB thing doesn't bother me as much. The Cardinal Way crap sounds too much like the Patriots.

It is dumb to hear. It is dumb to me and im a cardinals fan. Best way for other teams to shut it up is to beat the cardinals tho. Hard to brag about the cardinals way from 4th place. You dont hear much about the cub way. Of course it is hard to brag about win a world series every 100 years or so.

Believe it or not ...
I understand there's an entire chapter about how to comport yourself on the field just like Carlos Zambrano.

OK, I won't disagree that the slogans themselves are annoying, but most of that is pretty standard stuff for any team.
As for the Cardinal Way, McClellan is being disingenous. George Kissell has as much to do with the Cardinal Way as anyone. I mean, it's just an organizational blueprint. I would imagine most teams -- not the Phillies -- have them. The Cardinal Way thing just kind of took off because the national media needed to define St. Louis. DeWitt III was on the radio the other morning and didn't endorse it as something the Cardinals use for marketing purposes. If McClellan wanted to use his space to call people out for misusing the "Cardinal Way" then I would have applauded him. As is, he's just playing media police and punching down on the 95 percent of Cardinals fans who don't visit message boards and bitch on Twitter.

Nothing in sports fandom irks me more than the proliferation of the "Nation" affectation. No one is just a fan of a team anymore. You're a member of its "Nation."
Saw a white kid in the Florida State student section wearing a "'Nole Nation" t-shirt during yesterday's Syracuse/FSU basketball game. Considering it's tougher to solve two-piece jigsaw puzzle than it is to qualify academically for acceptance to Florida State, I'm certain the irony was completely lost on him.

I didnt notice it was that big of deal. I basicly ignore it anyway but it is nice to hear matheny speak out against it.
