Scary stuff. Though I'm guessing no one in the Cardinals' clubhouse was singing "Chapman is gone ..."

I hope the best for him. He is an exciting player. It would be hard to ever get back on the mound after something like that.

Don't you think that MLB has to be headed toward a requirement that pitchers wear something similar to a goalie mask? They made such a big deal out of catcher safety, but it seems like these incidents happen more often than catcher injuries and the consequences are much worse. Chapman is lucky he isn't dead.

I think they're giving pitchers the option of wearing protective caps, which one of the pitchers who got hit in the head within the past couple of years - maybe Happ - immediately said he wouldn't wear.
You're probably right. The way baseball players accommodate these things, it's going to take a tragedy before there's any substantial change. Which is really odd, because when baseball started making base coaches wear helmets a few years ago, after about an hour, it wasn't a big deal.

I dont really care about player safty. The only thing i dont like is batters wearing protective gear and then taking hbp. As far as the pitchers weating mask, i say go for it. Same with batters or fielders. I dont care. However, they are adults and it should be there option. They know the danger, risk and reward.
