Ahhhh, fuck.
Ever see the movie "Mr. 3000?" The commissioner's office did an audit and found out he's still 34 hits short.

Those are all pretty good guesses barring a major injury. I suspect he really wants to pass Ruth on the RBI list, and if he can stay healthy, that may be achievable. I'd add a couple other categories:
Runs: 1950 (10th)
Total Extra Base Hits: 1380 (3rd)
Sadly, it appears more and more likely his career average will finish below .300. He's down to .304. Considering he left St. Louis at .328, that's a pretty insane drop in a relatively short period of time.

Career leader in GIDP. 365
You look at the names around pujols and they are made up of a majority of players from another time. He has had a truely remarkable career and steroids have never been a substantial story line. Deffinatly forgotten as to how great is has been at this point in his career. He will be used up but a finally ride into the sunset as cardinal would be neat. I doubt he has any place in the league in 3 years. Picturing a jason Giambi role for him.
Another guy i marvel at is bonds. I know he was a juiced up asshole but damn, he was still human and those are some amazing numbers. His IBB and BB are jaw dropping.

Once he gets to 3,000 hits, he'll be one of four players to amass 3,000 hits and 600 homers, along with Aaron, Mays and ARod. That's pretty amazing company.

I'd love to see him back in St. Louis, but IIRC, doesn't he have a 10-year personal services contract with Moreno after his current contract ends?
I'd imagine, though, he may have some wiggle room there, since he's not become the face of the Angels' franchise like they'd expected.

What was that contract? 10 years 10 million dollars? Pujols could make an extra 10 million in one year in stl. Im not talking about his baseball contract either. Matter of fact, i wonder how much local money he left on the table by leaving.

I watched until the plate appearance when he was hit by a pitch. At first I was excited, then I got mad at all those idiots in Anaheim with their free ponchos, then I got sad when I thought what this milestone would mean if he was still in St. Louis.
The timeline would almost certainly be different, but imagine if he was going for his 3,000th hit tonight, with the Cubs in town, on a Friday night, in one of the great baseball cities in the country.
Instead, he's going to be going for his 3,000th hit in Seattle, in the middle of the night, when half the country is asleep.
I don't want to rehash the entire Pujols debate again, but I think in an honest moment he'd admit him leaving St. Louis was one of the epic mistakes in baseball history. I don't know how I'd react if someone put a piece of paper in front of me and told me if I signed it, I'd get paid $300 million, but either way none of Pujols' children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were ever going to have to worry about money again. Was the difference between being the most adored player of a lifetime in St. Louis and choking on Mike Trout's fumes in a city that's a blip on a highway in front of fans who need to be attracted to the ballpark by a "Hans (sic) Solo Rally Monkey" really, really worth it?

I happened to catch his final at-bat last night. As you said, it's sad he won't get there in a baseball city. I'm sure the Mariners fans will applaud, but many of them may not know or appreciate why they're applauding.
I just went to ESPN's website, and you have do scroll down quite a bit to find any mention of Pujols reaching 2,999. It's below a story about whether small market teams should be allowed to sell their home games to teams that draw bigger crowds; whether the Orioles should trade Manny Machado, a story about Alberto Almora's defense; Ichiro joining the Seattle front office, Keith Law's mock draft and whether Mike Trout could outproduce an entire lineup.
That's sad.

I think there was the money aspect of it but i also think pujols knew in the back of his mind he needed the dh available to reach these numbers.

There's an Asian guy wearing a Cardinals jersey who sat behind the Angels dugout the last two games in Anaheim. He's sitting behind the Angels dugout tonight in Seattle.

Well, that's nice. Congratulations, Albert.

Pujols got a 3mill bones for that hit. Damn

He could probably use the money.

As Albert crawls toward Griffey's 630, and toward 2000 RBI, ESPN features him in a pretty good article about how ballplayers age:

Barring a catastrophic injury, Pujols should finish in the top 5 in HR and top 3 in RBI. But it amazes me that he isn’t going to finish his career as a .300 hitter. That seems almost unthinkable.
Offline
The more his production tails off, the more I question whether the Angels can give him enough ABs to hit any of those milestones. He used to say he took more pride in hitting consistently than piling up homers. If that was and is his true feeling, how long will he allow his other numbers to deteriorate in hopes of passing Mays?
Offline
He’s still on pace to hit 25 HR and drive in 80+. If he can do that, they’ll keep him in the lineup. The only thing the Angels are going to get out of that contract are the milestones.

I dont watch al games, let alone west coast baseball. It is hard for me to think of pujols as anything but a all fields hitter who walks 100 times, never strikes out and hits into a ton of doible plays. The idea that he is a .250 hitter does seem unthinkable.
