4/20 GC

Three out of four here would be so much better than a split.

Re: 4/20 GC

Miller threw a nasty changeup to LaRoche and a flithy curve to Desmond. Why he doesn't trust those pitches more, I have no idea.

Fight between the Brewers and the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Believe it or not, Carlos Gomez was in the middle of it.

Re: 4/20 GC

51 pitches and counting for Miller with 2 outs in the 3rd. Hope the bullpen is ready.

Re: 4/20 GC

Can someone tell me why a guy who can throw a 96 mph fastball is trying to nibble like Greg Maddux?

And keep in mind it took him only six pitches to get through the first. Miller doesn't need a pitching coach. He needs a babysitter.

His mechanics are inconsistent. He's falling off to the side.

Re: 4/20 GC

Carpenter has been bad this series.

Re: 4/20 GC

For two teams that are supposed to be good, this has been a poorly-played series.

I see that, but how he's going after hitters is what concerns me. He's not coming inside at all. A guy with a 96 mph fastball ought not to be afraid to bust a hitter under his hands. Hell, Choate just threw one under Span's hands, and Choate's fastball is 85 mph.

Very poor.

Is there a rule that says Martinez has to pitch every day?

Re: 4/20 GC

Great play by Descalso. This team must lead the league in botched DPs.

Bob Carpenter is amazing. He's been calling baseball games for more than a decade, and he still has no idea what's going on.

Re: 4/20 GC

I wonder if MM has a plan in case this game goes beyond nine innings.

Re: 4/20 GC

Ball four to McLouth wasn't a strike, but the first two pitchers were.

Re: 4/20 GC

It's a shame that, of the Cards' 2-1/2 second basemen, the guy out there late in a close game was DD. Just bad luck, I guess.

Re: 4/20 GC

Im starting to doubt this team.  9 players are hitting under .260.  3 "everyday" players are below .200.

I missed most the game but i guess he is on pace to pitch 100innings out of the pen.

On the flip side, they went 4-3 through Milwaukee and Washington with most of the lineup in a funk. I'm more concerned about how unsustainable the bullpen usage is.

Re: 4/20 GC

The bullpen isnt much of a debate.  It is going to blow up at some point.  Martinez is a crutch they cant do without to win.  Yet over using him is going to ruin him.  Motte might help or his career might be over.  I dont really see where the reinforcements are going to come from.   Memphis, trades or are we just going to wait and see if maness and segriest figure it out.

Re: 4/20 GC

Well, Siegrist has been good. I think they've made up their mind on Maness, though.

I think we'll see them very active at the deadline.

Siegirst seems like he's finding it. He hasn't given up a run in his last four appearances. Not sure about Maness. He needs pinpoint control to be effective.
I'm mostly with TK, though. The hitting will come around.
Keep in mind by the time they make it back to St. Louis, they'll have played 17 of their first 23 games on the road. Unless they get swept by the Mets, and they're not going to get swept by the Mets, they'll have a .500 record or better.
