What happend. I fell victim to the couch.

Seth Maness happened.
I just don't see how they can lose a game like that. They were up 3-0 with Wacha on the mound against a team that is missing two of its starters, empties out the bench by the 10th inning, AND loses Aramis Ramirez. Hopefully Jon Jay took a roofie and forgets all about last night.

Lucroy hit Maness' second pitch of the 12th inning into the left field corner for a double. The Brewers bunted him over to third. Davis hit a fly ball down the left field line that was deep enough to score Lucroy, and instead of making a catch, Holliday let it drop foul. But Davis hit a triple down the right field line, and then he scored on a sac fly.
The Cardinals had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the 12th, but Rodriguez got Peralta to fly out to center for the last out, followed by some genuflecting among the usual histrionics from Gomez to bring attention to himself for making a routine play.

"They were up 3-0 with Wacha on the mound"
The unnerving thing was he was facing the bottom of the order. He walked a guy hitting under .200 and then gave up a single to another hitter who with his stuff he should have dominated.

I still hold out some hope for Peter Bourjos, but in that situation last night, why is Matheny bunting? That play had a miniscule chance of working out. Plus, there's a guy on the bench named Tony Cruz who is hitting .400 in limited duty. What are the freaking odds that Molina is going to get hurt?

The distressing thing about the bunt was that Bourjos directed it toward the third baseman, even after the first bunt attempt that went foul would have clearly been an out if Reynolds had fielded it and thrown to the shortstop covering third. An adjustment was in order. If Bourjos bunts the ball to the right side, Holliday probably makes it to third, and if Bourjos gets the ball past the pitcher, he probably reaches, too. And I think Yadi followed with a fly ball that would be been deep enough to score Holliday.

And I absolutely agree with AP that Bourjos should have been running. There's not much sense in keeping him at first base there.

I'm not sure a bunt to the right works. Holliday isn't fast, and I think there's a good chance that Maldanado guns him down at third. The Brewers were anticipating the bunt, which means the Cardinals should've probably countered with the butcher boy or let Bourjos swing away.

The reason I would have opted to bunt to Maldonado is because he doesn't have a lot of experience at first base. I realize he has the catcher's arm, but it's still a more difficult play than throwing to second on a stolen base attempt. I do agree with you that having Bourjos swing away was the best option. With the wheel play they had on, there were holes all over the infield.

Idk what the correct thing to do with borjous was. It wasnt to have him bunt to third after what we saw after the first attempt. That was the last thing you do. Mccarver called it on air even. Bunt it to first? Idk maybe. That is better then third. Or maybe you could let a major league hitter swing the bat. Anything but what they did.
