Bumgarner's pitch count was under 70, I believe, after six innings and they had a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. I might have replaced him with whatever starter isn't going to the LDS right then and there to preserve the option of having him for Game 2. But maybe he's not a guy who does well on short rest. Or, the Giants have last night's game on their minds.

With the days off today and Sunday, you can bring him back on Tuesday on regular rest, and then presumably in Game 7.
If Hurdle takes a lot of heat for starting Cole this past Sunday, he deserves it. He needed three things to happen to win the division - a Pirates win on Sunday against Cueto, a Cardinals loss on Sunday with Wainwright starting against the worst team in the league, and then beating the Cardinals again on Monday in St. Louis.
