Maybe more like $1.3, if they can find a taker for Schumaker's salary:
"General manager John Mozeliak made clear last Tuesday that Ryan Theriot represented the team's starting shortstop "for now." Apparently that could change as the Cardinals retain interest in Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett, who may be dealt before the meetings conclude Thursday. Such a move would shift Theriot to second base and likely put second baseman-outfielder Skip Schumaker and his $2.7 million salary in play."
And as for Ryan, it sounds as though La Russa is making noises that Ryan has no place whatsoever on his team, in spite of what others may say:
"Bartlett's eventual destination could also influence the market for the Cardinals' desposed starting shorstop, Brendan Ryan. The San Diego Padres and the Baltimore Orioles are among the teams that have expressed interest in Ryan, a first-time arbitration-eligible player coming off a disastrous offensive season. While Mozeliak notes that Ryan could remain with the club, manager Tony La Russa on Saturday emphasized the potential significance of Tyler Greene with next year's team."

Never mind.
"Mozeliak specifically said that the team no longer is having discussions with Tampa Bay about Jason Bartlett, as believed as recently as this afternoon."

That's OK. I didn't really understand that move, other than as a way to bump Theriot to 2B. Bartlett doesn't seem to bring much, or any, of the offensive improvement they claim they want.
