Everything you like and dislike about Grichuk is summed up by his first two at bats tonight.

Nice recovery from Lackey after a frustrating first inning.

The Pirates are killing the Nashnils tonight. Maybe it's me, but it seems like the Nashnils don't play well against good teams.

Re: 7/23 CG

Nashnils are 19-15 against teams with winning records. They're 0-5 against the Reds this year, and 2-4 against the Marlins. Go figure.

Re: 7/23 CG

The lead will be gone. Matheny needs to go get Rosenthal before he blows the game. No reason to use him 3 nights in a row.  Just stupid.

Walden needs to hurry back before Rosenthal's DL stint arrives

Re: 7/23 CG

I know the all-Missouri World Series thing is probably a popular topic, but I don't need to see the Royals again this season.

The entire bullpen needs another All-Star break.

I wouldn't mind. I was there tonight and the atmosphere was electric. I'm also not as sold on the Royals magic as others. Their bullpen is top-notch, but if you can scratch out four runs against that mediocre pitching staff, you're in good shape.

Yeah, if the Cardinals make it to the World Series, there will be electricity no matter who the opponent is. The Royals may lack starting pitching depth (I'm guessing they're going to be in the market now that Vargas is done for the year), but as you say their bullpen is phenomenal, they play outstanding defense and there's a relentlessness to their offense, even if plate discipline is a little lacking.
I'd rather see the Cardinals play any of the flawed teams in the AL East, or the Angels, who have Erick Aybar and his .673 OPS batting fifth.

Re: 7/23 CG

I have no way of proving it, but I think the crowd was way more jacked for last night's game than your typical July game, and that decibel levels would be shattered if they played again in October. This is mostly because Royals fans have spent the last nine months pretending like winning a pennant has put them on equal footing with the Yankees.

I do agree about the Royals' defense. There doesn't appear to be a weak link anywhere on the field, so the best way to beat them is to drill homers. Assuming the Astros don't crumble over the next nine weeks, I think they would be the biggest threat to the Royals.

I'm willing to give them some leeway because the Royals were so bad for so long. But I can do without the "Moooose" chant every time Moustakas does anything from hitting a double to catching a routine popup to adjusting his cup. That's starting to get annoying.
