7/26 GC

Watching the Hall of Fame ceremony until the game comes on. La Russa is one of the few guys on the dias who isn't wearing sunglasses. Irony.

It wasn't a lengthy tenure.
The game I remember was right after the Cardinals signed him. He threw five shutout innings against the Padres, when the Cardinals had absolutely no one else to start that day.

Re: 7/26 GC

It just slipped my mind.  Sort of like pedro with the phillys.  I believe that was when he didnt start till halfway through the season.

Apparently, you have to swing and miss to have a strike called today.

Wacha's velocity is fine, but he isn't sharp. This could be a long bullpen day

From about 1998 until he hurt his arm in 2003, there was no one I've seen who came even close to being as dominant as Pedro. When he had all three of his pitches working, he was unhittable. The best game I've ever seen anyone throw was in either 2001 or 2002 at Yankee Stadium. He struck out 17 guys and threw a 1-hitter in a 2-1 win. The hit was a home run by Chili Davis that Davis later admitted came on the pitch where he basically just swung as hard as he could where he thought the ball would be and it ended up going over the fence. Pedro made a lot of good hitters look foolish that day.

Johnson ended up pitching for a lot of teams. I think he finished up with the Giants. And how many more times are you going to see two guys who played for the Expos go into the HofF in the same year? Vlad Guerrero may get in, and Larry Walker might get in someday, but that's probably it.

How can the umpire make a call from where he's standing?

Im not sure of all the HOF classes but there couldnt have to many better as far as pitching goes and there likely will never be another greater.

I napped through the call.  Had to be a long delay.   I woke up a few times and it was still going on.

CubFan Next Door is having a party in his backyard this afternoon. They're probably not celebrating the prospect of the Cubs gettng swept at home by the worst team in the league.

How the fuck do a cardinals and cub fan live next door to eachother 1200 miles from Illinois.  The odds have to be slim.

I don't know if you're ever going to see another 300-game winner. Kershaw or the King have a shot, but neither one of them is halfway there yet.
Koufax, Early Wynn and Lefty Gomez all got inducted the same year. Gomez certainly isn't on anyone's list of the greatest pitchers of all time, and even though Wynn won 300, he was one of those guys like Ripken and Yastrzemski (and Biggio, for that matter) who accumulated numbers because they played forever.

My neighbor was born in Ireland, but grew up in Chicago. He's a good guy, but he's odd. I've never seen him wear shorts. It can be 95 degrees in August and he'll be wearing jeans.

You wouldnt think it would be hard to replace him.  Then again brendan ryan is still employed.

Tim Raines

Yeah, I don't know if Raines ever gets in. His ticket is obviously the stolen bases, but he doesn't reach the benchmarks in any of the major offensive categories. Despite his speed, he wasn't an outstanding defensive player and he didn't have much of a presence in the post-season until he was a part-time player with the Yankees late in his career.
And there's the cocaine thing. I know it's kind of hypocritical to keep him out for doing coke when most of the guys who played in the '60s and '70s were doing amphetamines, but the people who vote for the HofF aren't known for their consistency.

Error, passes up a force out with the pitcher conceding second and can't get a bunt down.

He's not hard to replace. I really think they're terrified he's going to go to another team and turn back the clock to September 2012.
