Because Holliday and Gyorko have "shut it down for the day."

Re: 5 / 22 GC

I don't think the pitching has been this bad since about 2008. There's zero consistency.

When is Chris Carpenter due back? That will be like trading for an all-star at the deadline.

How can a staff regress this much?

It's a combination of things all going wrong at once. Wainwright is still pitching his way back into shape. Garcia can't muster enough confidence to overcome his fragile psyche. Martinez still lacks maturity and hasn't developed a pitch that allows him to consistently get out left-handed hitters. I don't know if Wacha is ever going to be the same pitcher he was before his injury/departure of his changeup. Leake seems to have found a groove, but in a perfect world he's a back-end of the rotation guy, not a guy who you want starting two games of a 5-game NLDS.
They miss Lynn probably more than they expected. He'll never be an ace, but he was the kind of pitcher who will give you 6-7 innings every time out. They don't have one guy about whom you can say that right now.

He's set for a rehab start next week. We'll see how it goes.

The complete reversal of last season. Last season they were excellent at stranding runners. This season they are atrocious at it. Their starters are as bad as stranding runners as the Brewers, Twins and Rockies. They also can't miss bats, ranking 26th in K%. I would guess a combination of being more hittable and having a lousy defensive infield is the issue.

Ill agree with all that except for waino....i just think his time is done.   He is a 4 or 5 pitcher
