So the Cardinals drafted Dalvin Perez, a high school aged SS from Puerto Rico. From what I've read, he was expected to go Top 5 in the draft until reports came out that he failed a PED test.
TK, anything you can add?
Everything I've read indicates he is going to be an elite defender, but his bat is still developing.

TK, do you know anything about the Cardinals' first round pick? What the hell is an Individualized Educational School?

So what happens if it's not a catch? There's a force out at second.

I just watched the MLB Network's analysis of the pick. Gammons and some other guy loved the pick. Of all people, Harold Reynolds got preachy and started bitching about the message it sends when a kid fails a PED test and still gets drafted in the first round.
Hey Harold, what kind of message does it send when a guy gets canned for sexually harassing a subordinate but then ends up with a prime time TV position at a competing network?

That's bullshit. Holt was going back to first.

FSMW has some of the worst production. They spent the entire review doing a side-by-side of Piscotty and the umpires standing around instead of showing a goddamn replay.

Careful here ...

I am unfamiliar with Puerto Rico's education system, so that is a very good question.

Pick 33 is a high school outfielder who is committed to Fullerton.
Pick 34 is a RHP from Mississippi State. Dan O'Dowd doesn't like the pick, but he gave $121 million to Mike Hampton, so screw him.

MLB Network suggested he came from a much poorer/rougher part of PR than players like Correa. My guess, it's probably the equivalent of the DR's baseball academy.

It sounded like the #33 pick was a signability pick designed to save them some money for others. MLB Network liked the #34 pick, the only question being whether he'd end up a starter or reliever.

I just saw some video. Very reminiscent of Edgar Renteria, but a little longer and thinner.

His family apparently ran a cockfighting ring. This kid has seen some shit.

Kolten Wong homers twice tonight, including a walk-off grand slam.

For those of you who enjoy college baseball, the pitcher the Cardinals took at #34 starts tomorrow for Mississippi State.

Reading Goold's column, it sounds like they had a pretty solid first day

So he did take an anabolic steroid and the Cardinals met with him and did background checks.

One story I read said he and Molina use the same agent. I'm envisioning a mentor/mentee situation

No, he can't be punished, but I think he subject to additional testing than a normal draftee
