Looks like the cards lost fryer to the pirates. Hate to see the lose if depth at that position. The are one injury away from seeing what gary bennett is up to.

That's an almost unforgivable error by the front office. I know they committed some dough to Pena, and I'll grant Fryer isn't the second coming of Johnny Bench, but the Cardinals let go of the better player in this instance.

100% agree...

Not to mention I just heard last week that "every team" is looking for catcher depth. If this team thought it could do without Fryer, couldn't they at least try getting some value for him?

No, it's all good. If you look up "green fecal algae" you'll find plenty of stories about issues some parts of the Florida gulf coast are having with it, but nothing in Alabama.

But then some idiot reporter made a joke on Twitter about flesh eating bacteria in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It was complete nonsense, but you know how stories spread across the interweb.

I found a couple of different websites that post the weekly bacteria readings taken by the State. Anything below 104 ppm is considered safe, and the beach where we're staying was below 2 ppm. Apparently the potentially bad times are after really bad storms because it can wash waste from the treatment plants into the ocean.

Of course, as Madison discovered, you still have to watch out for the jellyfish.

The other teams in the league, having watched the Cardinals never waver from their plan, knew Fryer was going.to be DFA'd because of the financial commitment to Pena. So they wouldn't have gotten much, but your overall point is valid. The Cardinals have made their team worse due to their intransigence.
Not to mention they bailed out one of their divisional rivals and the team they're playing this week from having to play Erik Kratz. Again, I don't think anyone was saying the Cardinals forked over the second coming of Mickey Cochrane, but Fryer plays good defense, has rare speed for a 30-year-old catcher, and looked like he had figured out something with his bat.

...and threw out 4 of 6 SB attempts; in 85 innings . A very solid arm.

True the only leverage the cards had was if a team low on the waiver list wanted him and was worried he would get claimed before their turn.  Im not sure what the waiver order is based on.  My assumption would be the worst record team picks first.  If so about half the teams passed on fryer.

Re: 7/3 GC

If this team would have played mediocre of late they could be 5 games back instead of 8.
