Yep had a very good career. Not even close to HOF worthy. Somebody had a man crush.
Speaking of HOF.....idk if bagwell did PED. I dont remember it reported. He fits the stereotype. Pudge was linked by Canseco and more. If the hardline stance is being broke i wonder what will happen to the other, more deserving guys.
Pudge getting in, imo, build molinas case.

When you see some of the players on the ballot that received 0 votes it makes you wonder how they got on the ballot. Casey Blake? Matt Stairs?

Bagwell has never been implicated, even anecdotally, as a PED user. The argument against him was "Well, he looks like he could have been a user ..."
I read today that both Bonds and Clemens exceeded 50 percent of the vote for the first time and that they will likely get in before their eligibility period expires. If that's the way it's going to be, then you have to also let in McGwire and Sosa and Palmeiro and Canseco and all the other juicers. I don't want to hear a "Clemens and Bonds had Hall of Fame credentials before they did drugs" argument, especially when both of them maintain their bullshit stance of denying they took PEDs.
As for Yadi, we've watched him every day for the past dozen years and we know how valuable he's been, but the geeks who only look at offensive stats will never appreciate him. And those are the guys who are becoming BBWAA voters as the old school print reporters are fading away.

Agreed on both points artie with the exception of palmario. He was suspended for ped. He chose to do/continue with his usage once mlb made it illegal. I think that is a different line to draw in the sand then the other. I will full heartedly agree bonds, clemons, candaco, sosa and mcgwire have to be let in.
Side question, was sosa ever linked other then rumor? I know he testified at congress.

As for the molina to pudge comparison i dont think the two are that far off. Pudge has 4 more gg the molina but molina has a handful of years to get another one or two. It is going to be hard to do with posey around. Im trying to think of catchers in pudges time frame that rivaled him?
Anyway, pudge has a sexier baseball card because of hrs but their ops isnt drastically different. .798 to .738. Again if molina can have a few more decent years he can at least hold that level.
Throw out the sexyness of hrs and gg (which are highly offensive based) and weigh in that molina done it without ped and i think we are looking a very similar players.

Sosa was implicated by Jason Grimsley, but I don't believe he ever tested positive.

Sad to say, but I think last season was the beginning of the end for Yadi. He wasn't nearly the same player defensively, and while he had a decent year offensively, I question whether he's going to be a 15 HR/70 RBI guy ever again. All those years of catching 130 games are going to catch up to him.

I would be surprised to see both Yadi and Wainwright to have much left in the tank , in spite of their optimism .

Sadly you probably correct. As fans we will suffer through matheny loyalty to the situation.

I don't know how long they can stick with Wainwright in the rotation if he continues to pitch like he pitched for most of last season. My fervent hope is last year's struggles can be attributed to the notion he was still healing, and that he'll revert to the pre-Achilles Wainwright this year, but at least 51 percent of me doubts we're ever going to see that guy again.

Hopefully, Matheny will put a little more trust in Fryer than he did in Cruz, who basically became an emergency catcher, the baseball equivalent of Brett Favre's backup. While Fryer isn't an everyday catcher, he proved last year he can give you a game or two a week without sinking the ship.
Then again, we're talking about Matheny. I might as well try to get rich playing the lottery.

Moss to the Royals. Two years, $12 million.

Not a bad deal for the royals but i dont think he fits into the cardinals plans. Wish him luck.

Music .
How to unload Adams ?
Here's a list of people who can play first base better than Adams :
Carp
Gorkyo
Piscotty
Molina
Diaz
Any relief pitcher ....

Fors posed the question in another thread that there is nobody worth signing. Thats true and nobody even worth a 4th round draft pick. Here are some people id be interested in.
Ryan Howard/Chris Carter- in a matt stairs, jason giambi role. Big bat off the bench and a spot starter. Im probably over valuing howard and under valuing carter.
Fernando Salas/Carlos Villanueva-minor league deal or an invitation to spring training. Both would be decent depth in their own right
Chris Coghlan- minor league deal for depth at multipal positions
Angel Pagan- 4th or 5th outfielder

From listening to the Angels' announcers on a limited basis, I thought Salas had been pretty good for them, but I see his ERA in Anaheim was over 4.00.
Howard doesn't interest me. As a bat off the bench, Carter would probably be expensive, and I don't want him to be the starting first baseman. Coghlan would be OK. I loathe Angel Pagan. He's a dick. I don't want him to ever, ever wear a Cardinals uniform.

This team needs a dick. Matheny is dickless.

The could exhume Earl Weaver and stick him in the corner of the dugout. Who would know the difference?

My favorite Earl Weaver moment was when he got tossed out of a game by Bill Hallion after they argued whether Hallion had poked Weaver in the chest or was just pointing at him.

Chris carter is considering a contract overseas. If the Cardinals could grap him for 5mill and put him on the bench would it be worth it? He would keep bullpens honest id think. He is strike out prone but a lower threat as well.

And then there's this:
Poor Corby didn't win a Gold Glove because he has long hair and La Russa hates him.

You can't have Carter and Adams on the bench. Between the 2 of them they barely play 1 position.

Id dump adams if i signed carter. Id dump adams anyway. Not a fan. Or wong but i hope im wrong about wong. This is the year for him to prove himself. My preference would have been to trade him but that isnt going to happen.
