Derrick Goold wrote a story about Matt Adams losing weight, which is a story I think I've heard several times in the last few years. This was from 2013:
Adams felt the same way, and he was impressed Lusky made the effort to come spend a couple of days with him and his family even though he is not expected to make the major-league roster this year.
“I was lucky enough to have Simon come out and tell me and my family how to cook healthy, what to look for in the grocery store and what to look for if we go out to eat,” Adams said. “It was really helpful. Even my mom and dad have benefitted from it.”Adams believes the weight loss, and loss of body fat, will give him more mobility and agility in the field, as well as allow him to use his hips more to generate power in his swing.
Cardinals’ first baseman Matt Adams showed up at the annual Winter Warm-Up event noticeably slimmer than he finished the 2013 season. Asked about the weight loss, Adams acknowledged a “six or seven” pound drop but attributed the slimmer look to a body mass — body fat vs. muscle — change more than straight weight loss.

He says he now is. The injury rehab was part of the reason for changing his normal workout plan, and the new regimen has left Adams slimmed down and, he hopes, in a better position to not only stay healthy all season but increase his production.
When Matt Adams went home for the holidays, his parents had not seen him since the final series of this past season. He took a car from the airport and when they greeted him at the front door of their Pennsylvania home they saw in person what they did all winter, less of him.
Big City was more of a suburb.
“They were speechless, at first,” Adams said. The Cardinals’ burly first baseman relocated this offseason to St. Louis so that he could throw himself into a three-phase workout orchestrated around Pilates, nutrition, and conditioning. The results stood there in his parents’ front door, and had anyone who saw him at the Winter Classic this past week talking about it. He shed 25 pounds, his face had slimmed, and he has become so lean that he needed to update his wardrobe, like new pants and workout shorts.

That's why the Cardinals have no interest in someone like Bautista. Having a slimmer Adams is like adding a 30 HR hitter without the extra salary.
[We need an emoji with an eye roll so I can properly convey the sarcasm in that post]

Adams signs a 1-year, $2.5 million contract. Or $1 per pound.
Cardinals also agree to 1-year deals with Rosenthal and Siegrist to avoid arbitration. Tsunamy is heading toward an arb hearing, which would be a first for the Cards since 1999.

The Cardinals offered $3.9M, and Martinez asked for $4.25M. I'd be stunned if they arbitrated over that small of a difference.

I was trying to say I'd expect them to reach an agreement in the middle over a difference that small without actually having the hearing.

Yes id agree. If my memory is correct this is Martinez first time arbitration. I also believe the recorded for such is Dontrelle wills at 4.35 million.

Moz apparently came out today and said he plans to go to a hearing. Hopefully that's just posturing. I cannot imagine a single reason why that would make sense over such a small difference.

Overall principal i suppose. The idea that the front office wont cave to advoid arbitration. No clue the cost of going to arbitration in the mlb tho.

Bob does Pilates for core strength and flexibility. It has really helped re-strengthen his back after it was hurt last year. He also doesn't mind that his instructor is pretty cute and about a size 0.

The ultimate motivation.
Are we sure that's Matt Adams in the photo? He almost looks too thin, like when Lance Lynn turned up looking like Kid Rock a couple of years ago.
