According to a poster on the Post-Dispatch board, Kelly was removed last night after taking a foul ball off the knee.  Apparently he stayed in the game for an inning or two.

There may have been some doubt about whether Kelly's bat was ready for St. Louis before the season started, but I don't see how there could have been any question about his being ready to take over behind the plate:  Here's an interesting report on the Memphis prospects:

I think Kelly is almost exactly the same age McCarver was when he took over the catching duties for the '64 team.

Once again, I very much regret that the Molinas and the St. Louis fans were able to bully Mo into jumping the gun on Molina's retention.  Maybe he is hoping for an insurance payout.
