And everything that's wrong with the 2017 Cardinals was on display in the past three hours and seven minutes.

Diaz is going to keep Diaz in the minors the way he's going (or not going) now.

Zach Duke just pitched a scoreless inning for the 3d day in a row at Memphis. I think he's given up only 1 hit and no walks.
With the way things are going with the Gards, I fear they will do something really stupid to make a spot for him on the roster.
Incidentally, Garcia had a solid outing for the Braves today and Adams hit his 15th.

Fortunately, my ability to count hasn't quite suffered the same diminution that my memory has.

Which improved his record to 2-7. The Braves are 10 games out of first place and have as much chance of making the playoffs as Bozo the Clown does of becoming King of England. I'm sure if the game has a scintilla of importance, Garcia would have shit his pants, like he always did when he pitched in a game that was important to be Cardinals.

I think a solid rule should be never to use a reliever 3 days in a row. Seems to be a very low success rate.

Although it seemed to work o.k. with Rosenthal today, of all people, I agree with you.
I remember an interview with Kent Tekulve that I heard about 37 years ago when he was in his prime. He said that his preference would be to never go 3 days without pitching and never pitch 3 days in a row. Then he laughed and said that he realized that circumstances would override those preferences. Ever since then, I've always hated to see a Cardinal closer used 3 days in a row. Unfortunately, I don't think most managers and pitching coaches pay much respect to that limitation.
Of course in the days when Tekulve and others (like Bruce Sutter) were in their prime, it was not uncommon for a closer to pitch 2 innings in an outing. But I don't think they averaged as many pitches per inning either.

I wasnt watching or following, i assume matchups was the reason rosenthal pitched the 8th instead of thr 9th but that seems odd.

I assume the manager did what he did because Rosenthal is a pussy who sucks in the ninth inning and Cecil has been his best reliever over the past month.

That was my take.
