Done deal. Longoria for Denard Span, SF's #1 prospect and 2 low level prospects.
I wouldn't have minded acquiring Longoria, but I have no idea what the Giants are doing. They almost lost 100 games last year. They may be marginally better with Longoria, but they still aren't a .500 team

Wonder if the cards are still working with rays for the pitchers. I liked longoria but more so as a throw in to a bigger trade. Idk what the cards are going to do that is reachable for another power at tho. Probably nothing and reassess at the break.

"They may be marginally better with Longoria"
If he's taking over for Sandoval, they'll be considerably thinner, though.

The same would apply for any third baseman smaller than Vince Wilfolk.

I thought bernies artical on a first base platoon was interesting. It would be a short term, less expensive way of trying to improve the offense. That is if matheny can run a carp/gyorko/wong/dejong/new guy merry go round for an infield.

What the hell are they going to do with Bryant? Move him to shortstop or to centerfield?

Machado is naturally a shortstop. He switched to 3B when he came to the majors, but he's played SS in the major leagues as recently as 2016.

Im not into hosmer at all. Also read the cards are in on jake arrieta with the cubs offering 110mill over 4 years.

I've never been much of a Hosmer fan either. Arrieta is trending back toward (pre-steroids) mediocrity, and in any event I can't see throwing all that money at a pitcher who is going to be 32-years-old on opening day. Considering Boras is his agent, I'm guessing the Cardinals are being used for leverage and he has no intention of signing with St. Louis.

Ugh!! I think I have looked at the VB website on average about once per year over the past 15 and have regretted everyone. But the one you gave me was very rewarding. I didn't know just how ridiculous they were. If there abre more people that stupid, maybe we can trade Carpenter to the Yankees for rookie they had last year. And maybe they'll thrown in or two all-stars besides (just as long as he isn't from Cuba).
I'd hate to see the Cards spend big money on Arrieta but Hosmer I'm all for.

That would be my guess as well. Not sure im guessing correct but lynns price tag prob wont end up being far from what the cub allegedly offered arrieta. Id rather have lynn.

Did you read the Matt Carpenter appreciation story linked therein? It's even worse, and probably reflects why I'm growing tired of baseball.
"While many dislike Carpenter for his baserunning and defense, and rightly so, the plate coverage he provides and his patience are exemplary. I thoroughly enjoy watching Matt Carpenter step up to the plate—to see a player with an eye like his is rare and something I implore you all not to take for granted."
Who goes to a game or watches a game to watch someone walk?

Rumor is the Royals offered 7 years/$147M.

You just don't appreciate the subtlety of a well-earned base on balls.

I'd do Judge for Carpenter straight up, and just acknowledge the Yankees are getting a steal.

Has someone in the media asked Moz or his chief lackey why they didn't even talk about giving Lynn anything more than a 1-year qualifying offer? If that's what happened. I don't know. It seems like everyone has assumed he's Brain Jordan v.2.

I might be in for 3 or 4 years and a AAV in the high teens. He isnt a 7 year player.
