I’m guessing the Cardinals analytics department wouldn’t have approved of starting Bauer over Kluber.
When you make a decision like that and the guy you pick takes a no-hitter into the sixth inning, you look like a genius. I still wish the Cardinals had hired Francona in 2012. He's a good manager.

I've always found the "Cardinal Way" thing unctuous, and I don't think Gyorko's ping-pong prowess or Brett Cecil's video games were the problem. The notion Fouler can't spend 10 minutes in the clubhouse after the game is a bit more unsettling, and it sure seemed to me he enjoyed being around his former teammates on the Cubs than he did with his teammates on the Cardinals.

Cardinal way bs is really just play fundamental baseball. That is pretty well every teams way. The 2016 and 2017 cardinals sucked at it.

Exactly .
Matheny has his faults for sure, but he can’t get out there and hit , run, field, and throw for them .

True. A manager is as much of a manager of personalities in the clubhouse as he is a field tactician these days. But I remember 2014, when they had to offload Kelly and Craig, partly to send the rest of the players a message they were members of a professional baseball team and not a Cub Scouts pack. That was 3 1/2 years ago, and if this article has any truth it seems like there is still a clique among the players who went through the minor league system, to the peril of those who didn't.

He needs to take a stand and bench some guys when they fuck up

5 Prospects to the AFL:
Initially, I shared with Fors his reservations about Mercado. But I like the guy more and more everything I learn about him. I really hate to see them lose him in a trade of desperation or to Rule 5.

I will be really surprised if either Girchuk or Piscotty is around in by the start of Spring training.

Interesting that Alcantara started. Is he on the Wainwright/Lynn/Martinez track of beginning his major league career in relief and then being converted to a starter? I can see him being a lights out closer, if he can ever harness that stuff at the major league level,

I don't know if I have the strength to go through another season of Randal Grichuk.
Piscotty is signed through 2022, but the contract is wicked back-loaded. He makes $1 million next year, and then he makes around $7 million each of the four years after that. My guess is they hope his mother's illness was the primary cause of his ineptitude this past season, last season was an outlier and give him 2018 to turn it around.
All that being said, Piscotty this past season took some of the worst at bats I've ever seen a professional hitter take. If his 2018 numbers match his 2017 numbers, at the end of the year they pay someone to make him go away or include him as a throw-in in a trade package.

I think they see him as eventually becoming a starter. My recollection is that he only started pitching in relief in the minors when it became clear that he would be a September call-up.

Id like to see grichuk and piscotty gone. Grichuk because i only see his value decreasing moving forward and he is redundant in the cardinals system. As for piscotty id put him on the crub with a "take me, im free" sign. Get rid of that contract allen craig style. The other option would be to trade him for a high salary player (stanton) and figure the team taking piscotty is basicly sending cash by taking on piscottys contract.

Alcantara now has two starts in the Arizona Fall League. The first one was pretty bad. The second one was pretty good.

There are about five scenarios that would make me stop rooting for the Cardinals. Hiring Dusty Baker is one of them.

From the limited amount of innings I've seen from him, he projects to me as a late inning high leverage guy or ideally as a closer. It's not an effortless 100 mph like Reyes, but I'll allow I don't think I've ever seen any pitcher throw as hard as effortlessly as Reyes does.

Whats the odds he breaks camp with the club? I assume odds are better as a bullpen pitchen then starter.

The Cardinals have announced the following changes to the 2018 Major League coaching staff:
●Current 3B coach Mike Shildt has been named Bench Coach

I wonder if Oquendo's wife has signed off on this.
