It’s a bright, sunny 30 degree day in the STL with a wind chill of 22. Perfect weather for baseball—or a softball tournament which is where I’m headed.

Have you been in a year long softball marathon?

Players look miserable. Wacha is out there in short sleeves..

Ozuna misplayed that fly allowing the second run to score.

I loved pitching in weather like this, but I hated being a position player on cold days.

That'll warm your cockles.

Six strikeouts in a row for DeJong.

Pretty much. High school season was August-October She played 2 tournaments with her club team in October. Indoor practice started after Thanksgiving and went to 2x/week after the New Year. Now it’s tourbaments almost every weekend through the end of July.

Maybe it is a good thing my kids are not athleticly inclined.

Madison turns 15 this year. One more year and she can drive herself. It gets much easier after that.
I can’t imagine what life will be like when the kids are done playing. Bob’s about to turn 18. We’ve had 1 or both kids playing sports since he was 5.

I've spent the last three and a half years watching track meets. You stand around for between two and three hours waiting for your son to throw a cannonball three times for a grand total of 30 seconds. I'm not going to miss it.

I threw shot and discus in high school. I spent a lot of the down time failing to pick up girls.

Days like today don’t bother me. Madison had back-to-back games as 11:30 and 1. The days that suck are when you have a game at 9, 12 and 3. You don’t have enough time between games to leave the park, but you’re still stuck there the whole day.
She’s fun to watch play, though I’d hate to play against her. The 2nd game she played today, in her first at-bat she doubled home a run with a ball that one-hopped the fence. Then, with her team down a run and the tying run at 3rd, she caught the 3rd baseman too far back, dropped a bunt that not only scored the tying run, but the go-ahead run scored when the third baseman threw the ball into RF.

That’s one of the few times I remember Bud Norris pitching that something went right for the Cardinals.

Well that was nice. I didn't think they had a chance in hell of winning today.

He seems to be uncommonly calm, especially for a 21-year-old. Even with the error and the ump squeezing him a couple of times.

Oh, I didn't need the backdrop of a track team to fail to pick up girls.
