Agree.  If someone calls me a son of a bitch i dont take it as them calling my mother a bitch either.

The first time I heard it was in Pittsburgh, then Cincinnati. It's incredibly annoying. I had to turn down the sound.

Calling someone with a Hispanic background, especially if they're from Puerto Rico, a motherfucker is a big deal. The Puerto Rican culture values the purity of femininity, so even inferring that someone fucks their own mother is enormously insulting. Yelling it in front of 30,000-odd people is going to elicit the response Lovullo got from Yadi.
I read Lovullo said he wished he hadn't said what he said, but he knew exactly what he was doing. He's been involved in professional baseball for three decades. It's not like Yadi is the first Spanish-speaking player he's ever encountered.

Never looked at it that way, but it certainly matches Molina's reaction.  After the game, Yadi said something to effect of, "if he's going to call me a mother fucker, he better be prepared to fight.  And LOL and Lovullo with the "Hands up, don't shoot" response when Yadi starting coming after him.
