Not a bad idea imo. Not a bad idea at all. Bad part would be cutting the bench player they finally added.

It's an interesting idea. Another thing to consider is how they intend to use Reyes.
On a completely different subject, is 8:30 a.m. on a Saturday too early for my neighbor to run his gas powered leaf blower?

Breaking news: carp returns to the lead off role.

I think the idea of a 6th starter makes alot of sense. The article covers most the reason. Wasting flaherty in triple A is the big one for me.
When reyes comes back id like to see him in the bullpen. At least for awhile.

Here's an idea. How about planting his ass on the bench?

I bet he walks and has a hit today at minimum.

Molina
Martinez
Ozuna
Fowler
Dejong
Wong
Bader

Interesting.

it's a great idea to put the worst baserunner on the team and the slowest baserunner in the league at the top of the order.

Molina with the stolen base

Dejong is going to have a fine hr total at the end of the season. To bad he strikes out at a league high rate.

Maybe martinez isnt going to pitch to voto tonight. Not a bad strategy.

Conceptually, it’s an interesting idea, but it ignores the fact that pitchers are weird creatures of habit. I heard Bernie talk the other day that the Cardinals don’t employ the shift when Wacha pitches because he doesn’t feel “comfortable” when there’s only one infielder on the left side.
That’s the one flaw with the statistical analysis—it overlooks the fact you’re still dealing with humans.
And I don’t like Reyes in the bullpen for exactly the reason Artie posted last night. If he’s starting, he pitches every 5th day and throws on a scheduled day. If he’s in the bullpen there’s no telling when Matheny uses him or tells him to warm up.

And then he gets thrown out at third with two outs.

How does a major league baseball player forget how many outs there are?

And he makes up for it with a phenomenal catch.

Pitchers are normal. Everyone else is weird.

Wonder if Thompson is ever going to get through a sentence without using a cliche.

Bader seems to be the type of player that is going to do something productive everyday.

Outside of injury i dont see matheny allowing any current rotation members to be removed. Adding flaherty or reyes to the rotation by kicking waino or others out is about as likely as finding jimmy hoffas body.
Wacha will hit his normal mush arm phase and be worthless near the end of the season. They had a stat last night that when on extra rest he is a better pitcher.
Reyes will be on a short lease in the pen or rotstion.
Waino....holy shit.. idk what to say. Extra rest can only help.
Weaver it wouldnt hurt him to finish the year under 200 innings
Tlk is a complete wild card to make a long mlb season
Even martinez i think could use a skipped start.
And maybe a 6th start gets flaherty into the mix at some point.
Thats my feelings. Will never happen.

Lyons is doing a good job imitating cecil

Lyons hasnt been good. He hasnt been good vs lefties. Should of just stuck with gregerson. Now hicks is coming in after throwing a complete game in the bullpen yesterday.

I wonder if it has ever occurred to Matheny that there are some days when pitchers just don't have it.

Yadi is impressing me a lot this year.
