Lotsa launch angle in there.

Why does matheny keep challenging these bang bang plays?

Still a stupid challenge. Not what replay was intended for.

The first three innings epitomize Wacha's season so far - the results far exceed the level of performance.

I thought ozuna was a good fielder.

Someone named Tim Anderson swings at a 3-0 pitch with a runner on second and two outs with Jose Abreu in the on deck circle.
Incredible.

The operative word being "was."
Honestly, I don't recall him being especially good when he was with the Marlins.
FWIW, the Fielding Bible poll rated Ozuna third among leftfielders last year, behind Gardiner and Gordon. But I'm getting more circumspect about the Fielding Bible guys. I'm starting to think their ratings mostly depend on how often you're on SportsCenter.

He's over the Mendoza line, which puts him ahead of three other *hitters* Matheny opted to use tonight.

Guys, it's James Shields.

Redbirds won 5-4 tonight. Gant was pretty good. Sheriff wasn't. Tui was excellent. Wisdom homered.

Looks to me like he was forced to use them. I'd rather see them start Gyorko but I am beginning to wonder if they aren't trying to find out whether some guys (e.g. Carpenter, Gregerson) are being forced into the line-up with hopes they can at least become marketable. They could use some fresh blood at Palm Beach.
That being said, it also seems like Gyroko hasn't looked like he would add anything. Still, I'd rather see them put him in and just keep him in the lineup everyday.

1. Cards need more hitters like Carpneter.
2. Is SOP for front office to announce who the manager is going to use as closer.
Apparently Mo's job is to play the role of both GM and Manager while 2 other guys hold the positions.

Thats the second time ive seen ozuna get caught between making the play and holding back and playing it safe. I dont have a problem with either decison but you got to fully commit if you are going for it. At the very least get a glove on it.

Did McLaughlin just say Moncada has 47 strikeouts so far? On May 1? As a leadoff hitter?

Does Wisdom have a chance of being an every day player in the majors? It seems like with his power, someone should at least give him a shot..

Well thank goodness that happened. I'm too tired for extra innings tonight.

Considering he was left exposed in the Rule 5 draft and no one took him, apparently no one thinks so.

I was of the same opinion. Hopefully the cardinals play shitty teams all year.

I'd like to see the Cards trade him to some team that could find a place for him on the forty man roster so that he could be given some opportunities without having to stick for the whole season. He's never hit for a high average and strikes out a lot. He has the reputation for being an outstanding defensive player but it seems to me he makes a lot of errors. A very strong arm but they've been using him a lot at 1st.
You asked about his making it as a regular. Probably not but I think he might make some team a good buy to have on the bench.

Yes. You half to remember that these aren't the same experts who realized that there were over 400 prospects better than Albert Pujols the year he was picked up in the draft. Today's guys are lots smarter.
Baseball men are like most humans. They'd rather be dead wrong but with lots of company rather than risk making a move that might draw lots of criticism from knowledgeable fans if it doesn't work out. And they sure don't want to risk getting criticism by Whiskey Dan.
