Re: JUBILATION!

Well, FWIW, I neither saw nor heard wild celebrations yesterday.

What time was the game?

Re: JUBILATION!

It was the Sunday night game, so I believe it started at 5:15 p.m. your time.
Al Michaels referenced some sort of poll among Seattle fans, more of whom wanted the Seahags to lose last night so they could get a higher draft pick.
There's really no cause for celebration. If the Seahawks play twice as well as they did last night, something of which I'm not sure they're capable with Charlie Laffitte running the show, they'll only lose to the Saints by two touchdowns.
The Saints are either 10 or 10.5-point favorites. Has a road team ever been a double digit favorite in an NFL playoff game before?

That's the line being used by most around these part who are looking for a silver lining.  That and the game servng as a reminder to the front office that the receiving corps sucks and they better do something to address it in the off-season.

I'd love to hear the explanation for how Jackson only carries the ball 11 times in that game, one week after LaGarrett Blount torched Seattle for something like 473 yards.

You can have Darrius Heyward-Bey for the rights to all of Georgia Frontiere's nude photos and a kicking tee.
I don't know if it's me because as I get older I seem to have a harder time watching games in which I don't have a rooting interest, but that was a dreadful game to watch. I almost fell asleep in the third quarter and really had to struggle to make it to the end.

Re: JUBILATION!

Rams fans are already crapping their pants over next year's schedule when they face the AFC North, NFC East, Green Bay and New Orleans.

Yeah, but if they go 6-0 within the division, that would guarantee them a division title, right?

Actually, if you break down the schedule people shouldn't be as panicked as they seem to be.

This year they played the NFC South and went 1-3.  There's not much room to be worse against the NFC East.

This year they played the AFC West and went 2-2.  Cleveland and Cincinnati provide an opportunity for 2 wins.

In the variable part of the schedule the Rams played Detroit and Washington and went 1-1.  It may be tough to get one win against NO and GB, but it they can't get much worse than 1-1

Within the division they were only 3-3.  They need to improve that number.  The division sucks.

The reality is that the schedule played a role in this year's team going 7-9.  If they continue to improve, 7-9/8-8 could be a realistic goal next year.

Re: JUBILATION!

I think nine wins at most, six wins at the least. My early prediction is that they go 4-2 in the division and take down Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas and Washington. Plus, I think they upset either Baltimore or New York.

Re: JUBILATION!

I suspect AJ Green is gone before pick #14, but Julio Jones might be available.  As last night showed, they still have a lot of needs to address.  In no specific order they need to upgrade: WR, RB, G, DT, OLB, SS.  I'm talking starters, not depth.  That's a lot to ask from one draft, but considering what they're replacing, finding 4-5 players who can start or at least be part of a rotation shouldn't be too much to ask

how panicked should fans of a 7-9 team ever get?  i could see if the rams had been some kind of a powerhouse for several years, and then suddenly dipped to 7-9, but this is a bad to mediocre team that isn't going to get a whole lot better, or worse, in one season.

***Raiders conspiracy theory alert***

Not knowing and too lazy to look up who plays whom on the road next season, the Rams ought to have a huge advantage when it comes to travel. You'd think every team in the division will have to play at least four games on the East Coast, and the other three have to fly all the way across the country. The Rams only have to travel halfway across the country.
I doubt the 49ers, Seahawks and Cardinals are going to get the same perk Goodell gave to the Patriots a few years ago when he scheduled their four West Coast games in two consecutive sets. The Raiders certainly never get the same consideration.
I can tell you from experience the Chiefs have a travel edge in the AFC West being located where they are. West Coast teams just aren't programmed to fly across the country to play games that start at 10 a.m. their time.

A lot of it has to do with how poorly the Rams played against an opponent that had only won two of its previous nine games and was starting a backup QB. In those seven losses, Seattle had given up no less than 33 points in any game, and they had played Oakland, Kansas Shitty, Tampa and San Francisco.
Put it this way. The Seahags gave up 407 points and made the playoffs. The Panthers, who justifiably ended up with the worst record in the league, gave up 408 points.

If Justin Blackmon declares, I really hope the Rams draft him. I've read draftniks say that Julio Jones is a guy who can only out-muscle college corners and won't be able to do that in the NFL.

That's OK too, so long as Blackmon isn't one of those receivers from the spread who only knows something like 4 routes, none of which work in the NFL.  I didn't see very many OSU games, so I don't know much about him other than the fact he put up monster numbers.

Re: JUBILATION!

He's unreal. He's not on the same level as A.J. Green and probably not Jonathan Baldwin, but I've read that for a West Coast Offense (hello, St. Louis), he could be lethal. I've seen comparisons to Roddy White, Greg Jennings and Anquan Boldin.

Re: JUBILATION!

Also, the Dallas Morning News has already reported that Blackmon probably isn't coming out, so he's a pipe dream at this point. I don't see any way, though, that Baldwin gets by the Rams. Danny Amendola would appreciate him.

Re: JUBILATION!

I haven't seen anything putting Baldwin that high.  Scouts has him rated at #37 overall (#4 receiver) and he's not on Kiper's Top 25.  Not that those things have the final say, and a lot of things will change between now and the draft.

It will be interesting to see what the Rams do at WR.  IMO, they have to draft an elite WR.  But assuming they do, who do they keep out of the current group, and what role will those players fill?  Amendola is probably the only certainty in the group.  You could make an argument for any/all of Alexander, Avery, Clayton, Amendola and Gibson.  I think they need to cut ties with Robinson.  That also requires them to admit they missed on Gilyard which they may or may not be ready to do.

Given their scheme, do you think they keep 6 WR?  I don't, but who does/doesn't come back?

Re: JUBILATION!

There's a mock draft that has JaMarcus Mallett ... er, Ryan Mallett going to the Raiders at #47.

I don't think they'll keep six and I think Gilyard will get a chance to redeem himself. Gibson and Robinson are definitely on the bubble. Clayton is essentially a better version of Gibson, and I could do what Robinson does.

Perhaps I was reading bad information about Baldwin.

Traveling shouldnt be that big of an issue.  There is a week between game.  It isnt like they have to load up, land and play in a few hours like baseball team do sometimes.

Re: JUBILATION!

I tried to watch the Rams last night.  I havent watch much football the last few weeks and havent seen the Rams all year.  Not to dig at the Rams fans but that was a boring ass game.  It was like watching a bad college football game.
