Im not much of a draft or prospect guy. It is all fuzzy to me. Judging talent in hs vs college and how that is ranked seems like less then educated guessing. Thats from the extreme outside looking in and im sure it is more complicated.
Reading on the cards first round sounds about like every year. They drafted people. They were all good baseball players at their respective levels.

I haven't followed NCAA baseball as closely as I have in the past because in a mere four years Tracy Smith has turned ASU into a laughing stock. He has just guided the Sun Devils to the TWO WORST SEASONS IN THE HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM in 2017 and 2018.
And if I started paying attention to high school baseball players, I'd probably have to re-think my life.
Anyway, here's a story about the three picks the Cardinals made yesterday. Looks like the first round pick is a Kyle Schwarber clone, at least offensively.

The hitter they drafted in the 2nd round projects as a slightly undersized defensive tackle.
When you're 21 years old and your "Run" skill on the 20-80 scale is already a 20, that's a bad sign.

I hate to confess having watched 5 seconds of that bull shit that was on the MLB network but I actually did watch about 10 minutes of it while I was waiting for my wife to get out of the kitchen so I could load the dishwasher. I thought having that going on in the next room would make her hurry up to get out of the kitchen.
I just happen to hit the Cards 1st selection. The clowns who were offering their opinion of him seem to make him sound much more like a contact hitter than I think of Schwarber as being. But I may not know that much about Schwarber. Or maybe I misremembered what they said.
Of course either way we are talking about mostly bull shit.

Yeah, it looks like he's Matt Adams without Adams' demon speed.

MLB is trying to make its draft similar to the NFL draft but it just makes for uncomfortable television because the room is so small. I don't know how the panel can provide an honest analysis of the player when the player and his family are literally a few feet away.
Analyst: "This pick was really a reach for the team."
Player: "Hey!"
Analyst: "I'm serious. This kid isn't worthy of a first round pick."
Player: "You suck!"
In any event, if Dan O'Dowd told me to invest in the stock market, I'd run out an put all my money in gold. O'Dowd is the guy who gave Mike Hampton and Denny Neagle a Brink's truck full of money to pitch in Denver.

He looks to me like he ought to be playing the villain in a James Bond or Rocky movie.

Aye. If there's a way Ivan Drago and Robert Shaw's character in "From Russia With Love" could have mated ...

Yeah, who was the guy in the room who said "Let's draft the guy with the plate in his ankle?"

That would be the 6'4, 265 pound guy with the plate in his ankle
